copper colored, medium hoppiness, slightly bitter. A good IPA............... jsquire (4514) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - NOV 13, 2002
Nice red-orange color with a thick, off white head and a sweet, malty nose. Very malty flavor with caramel sweetness and a great bitterness to balance it out. Very good IPA. aobecksy (700) - Middle of no where, Ohio, USA - NOV 12, 2002
UPDATED: MAY 10, 2003 Very hearty, very hoppy, very malty with slight bitter aftertaste that keeps you from drinking just one, because switching now to another will not do. Inveigler (371) - Ferndale, Michigan, USA - OCT 22, 2002
Dark copper color which makes promises of awaiting malts and hops. Creamy off-white head. The aroma contains a little more malt character than hops. Flavor is loaded with caramel sweetness but it is counterbalanced by a nice hop punch. This is a very good and well-balanced IPA. But there is something missing from making it truly great. UPDATED: MAY 20, 2004 Rerate 5/20/2004: Pours a nice copper color with a puffy white head. Boldly hoppy aroma has a nice malty balance to it. Not over the top in any regard, just well balanced, sweet, hoppy, and a very nice IPA.
9/29/2002: Very representative of an IPA. Nice malt profile and good hoppiness. New Glarus has yet to disappoint me.

absolutely zero head, deep golden/copper color. ok, i’m rerating this one early on...clearly i tried it too cold. there is a bit of floral aroma and the hops and malts in this one are quite well-balanced. i would call this a poor man’s Hop Devil...no offense. herbstress3 (221) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - AUG 27, 2002
This is a good IPA, bottled or not. It is pretty malty but the hops are strong. It is also pretty sweet and has a good after taste. schm1005 (151) - Seattle, Washington, USA - AUG 27, 2002
This is the best IPA I have tasted out of Wisconsin. I’ve lived in the cheese state all my life and then moved to Washington state where the hops are the key to a distinctive beer. It is good to see some hop-heavy quality coming out of a state that is famous for macro-brewery piss beer. For a state that drinks so much beer it is about time we started producing some that tastes good. The word with the locals around New Glarus is that nobody in their "right mind" drinks New Glarus beer. However, anyone with functional taste buds would have to disagree. The cascade hop flavor reminds me of my new home on the coast. Just the right amount of bitter, strong but now overpowering... muzzlehatch (4963) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 17, 2002
Bottled. Big very stable whipped-cream head, dark dark amber body. Wonderfully balanced nose, full of good caramel malts and fruity hoppiness, apricots and peaches. Flavor rather "dark" and roasty for an IPA, very malty but with enough hops to get your notice, especially at the end. Not quite great, but very very good; NG strikes again! fraternie (1011) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 4, 2002
Very sweet caramel malt flavor. Somewhat of a metallic hop finish that wasn’t quite right, but still an enjoyable beer.
