3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I brought this one to our recent gueuze tasting. Served alongside the gueuze.
A - Pours reddish brown with a nice one finger tall white head leaving slight streaks of lace down the glass.
S - Smells like a fresh baked cherry pie initially. Once it dies down a bit you get hints of vanilla, warm bourbon, brown sugar and a touch of chocolaty sweetness.
T - Starts off with quite a bit of sour maraschino cherries quickly giving way to hints of vanilla, brown sugar, caramel malt and some warming bourbon. The tartness dies down and the sweetness intensifies as it warms up. Finish is pretty sweet, lingering for some time after consumption.
M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Smooth, slightly sweet feel with a touch of warm bourbon coming through as it warms up.
O - I really enjoyed this one. The fruit matched very well with the warm bourbon. It had all the right flavors to keep me interested and it was very easy to drink. Awesome stuff.
Bottle courtesy of Carl. Pours hazy reddish goldenish brown with a small frothy reddish offwhite head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is tiny malty, slightly fruity and funky with sourdough crackers, caramel, lemon juice, sour cherries, hay, dry soil, vanilla, charred wood, minerals, leather, toasted coconut, bourbon, lemon zest and hints of cardboard and marzipan. Taste is tiny sweet, slightly sour, slightly malty, slightly fruity and slightly funky. mouthfeel is soft, round, slightly dry, tiny tart and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and slightly sour with sourdough bread, caramel, sour cherries, funk and hints of cardboard. Bit over the top on the oxidation but still quite tasty with a demanding yet sublime complexity. Very happy to have had the chance to try this. AdmiralVernon (1197) - SWEDEN - MAR 11, 2016
A: Brown with a white head that disappears fast N: Vanilla, oak, toffee, caramel, cherry T: Vanilla, toffee, apricot, hint of cherry O: Great barrel flavours! A bit strange taste to it... Still very nice! juiceisloose (1498) - Windermere, Florida, USA - AUG 15, 2015
2010 500 ml bottle. Pours mostly clear and dark red in color and topped by a small fleeting head of beige colored foam that quickly fades leaving streaks of lace on the glass in its wake. The aroma shows notes of bourbon laden oak, vanilla from the barrel, tart cherries, and some candied sugar. The flavor follows with the tart cherries and oaky bourbon up front followed by some tannins and vanilla from the barrel. The bourbon is present but not overpowering, and not nearly as sour I would have thought. Some candied sweetness push through and balance out the tart cherries. Medium bodied with subtle carbonation that leads to a lengthy finish with sweet and tart cherries. This is probably past its prime now, but it has still held up well. Was hoping for a little more on the sourness, but still enjoyable and really glad I got to try it. Dfonorow (2250) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 12, 2015
Bottle. Pour is murky brown/orange with a small off-white head. Aroma and flavor are both complex - oak, peat, slight cherry, sour mix, light caramel, light acidic, and dark fruit. Finish is sour, oak, and cherry juice. Good. Experiment_Ale (1098) - Dallas, Texas, USA - APR 27, 2014
At jacob’s with group. Pour is murky mustard brown. Aroma is musky, sweet bourbon, complex cherry funk. Taste is barrell, authentic cherry. A nice complex, barrel forward cherry sour.

From long-gestating notes. Thanks to whoever provided this at mrpickles’ Black Friday tasting. Pours cherry-red with, surprisingly, a little wisp of faintly pink head. Nose is fleshy cherry, sweet yogurt, damp wood, just enough bourbon vanilla to tip the balance. Flavor follows, with a mouthfeel that’s just a tad thin. Dry finish, but the tang lingers for days. Insanely good. mathieuc (4000) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 15, 2014
Pour is dark red, head is small and offers good lacing. Nose is of caramel, bourbon with cherries coming in at a distant third place. Taste is really sweet and carries flavors of cherries, vanilla and bourbon. Too sweet, really. I didn’t take much notes about mouthfeel and finish, this wasn’t was I was expecting at all! Pours salmon/orange with low beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma is of caramel, bourbon, cherries, sugar, little cinnamon heart-shaped candies. Taste is of cherries, caramel, sugar, again the same cinnamon candies. Palate: Light-medium body. Good balance. Not cloying. Overall: Very nice beer. Drinkable. Not heavily sour at all. czar (9250) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 14, 2014
pours hazy almost cloudy copper-reddish with a small but reviving off-white head, nice lacing. woodsy bourbon vanilla, brown sugar - some sweetness, buttery nutty and fruity maltiness, coconut, spices - some cinnamon, bit more berries than cherries, bit of grass and pepper, light acidity - fairly linear, unfortunately a hint of garbage. moderate to low carbonation, light to medium body - tad heavy, barely tart and sweet fruity berry finish. more than decent sour but just o-k and nothing exceptional when considered a kriek.. tom10101 (6194) - Quebec, CANADA - FEB 13, 2014
Bottle (500 ml). From levifunk, thanks! Amber with a small/medium off-white and good lacing. Aroma is of bourbon, sweet cherries, vanilla, cough syrup, spices/cinnamon and sugar. Taste is moderately sweet (almost cloying) with bourbon, sweet cherries, vanilla, cinnamon/spices and light sourness. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Sirupy mouthfeel. Decent Sour, but the mix of sweet cherries and bourbon is a tad ankward. A tad more sourness/less sweetness would help too. Blended with Jester King Aurelian Lure, the aroma was fantastic.
