UPDATED: AUG 19, 2012 12 ounce bottle courtesy of MrPickles. Thanks! Opened 6/7/10. Pours a orange-brown color with a thin head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of candied cherries, a milky note and some brown malts. The taste is dominated by cherries, both fresh and candied, with a lightly roasty note and some nutty notes. Medium bodied and smooth. Cherry stouts are a style that do not agree with me at all, and this like all the others has a medicinal quality. That said, this is very good and if I liked the combination of roasted malts and cherries, I would love this one. 7/3/8/4/14

Had a bottle at CaptainCougars, shared by Captain Cougar. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thin tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of tart cherries, molasses, roasted malts and honey. The taste is tart cherries, faint roasted malts, honey. Medium bodied. Very, very nice. 9/3/8/4/18

Reddish very dark brown with a disappearing white head. Aroma dominated by cherry (acid-y) and oak which has notes of vanilla and coconut. Sweet with fruity acid and a long lasting dryness. Very interesting experiment, but the coconut turned me off.

(Bottle, courtesy of Lumpy) Pours a dark brown body with a spare beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate covered cherries. Flavor of chocolate covered cherries and a bit of woodiness with an oily mouthfeel. Not particularly stout-like.

Bottle shared by CaptainCougar. Pours clear dark brown with a medium, fizzy light tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is heavy cherry, light cookie and caramel malt with no hops. Flavor is heavy cherry, light chocolate malt with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation, light warmth.

Bottle at Camp Beer. Pours a cloudy amber with a small white head that quickly diminishes to nothing. The aroma is a strong cherry and oak. Thin mouthfeel with a light malt and strong cherry flavor with nice sweet finish. Easy to drink, a very impressive fruit beer from New Glarus.

12 oz bottle @Tampa Wkly Gathering @BT-pours a dissipating tan head and deep red/mahogany color. Aroma is spicy cherry, some medium malt. Taste is spicy cherry pie, secondary medium malt, wood. Doesnt seem to get the stout over the cherry.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with The_Enemy (as part of his surprise, unsolicited box of beers!) - thanks! Pours a deep ruby red color with a smaller sized off white head. Where to start on the aromas! Aromas of oak, vanilla, light cherries, light chocolate, some smoke, and whisky. Nice and complex with something new every sniff I took. Everything blended and worked perfectly. Tastes of strong cherries with light oak, vanilla and chocolate. Sweet and tart. In my book, New Glarus is definitely on top when comes to fruit beers.

Pours a dark brown/black with a thin, quickly dissipating off-white head leaving no lacing. It smells exactly like Wisconsin Belgian Red, no stout scent whatsoever. It is a nice sweet cherry pie scent with a hint of oak. The taste brings in more stout flavors, this is chocolate covered black cherry beer. This is far from a conventional stout. It has some slight oaky notes as well. Not much tartness, mostly just sugar sweet cherries. It is almost like they just added 10% stout to a bottle of Wisconsin Belgian Red. Interesting. I like it better than Bells take of the style. It is an immensely unique beer. It looks like a stout 100%, tastes like cherries 95%. Black cherry brew anyone? Bottled. Dark amber coloured. Unclear. Light brown head. Distinct cherry aroma. Spices and fruits as well. Flaovur is spiced full of cherries and has light alcohol notes Has a light sour touch. Medium bodied. Ends on a sweet and spiced note. I like this brewery.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2012 More cherry than stout, and good deal of sourness in finish. Reddish tinge to black stout, pinkish foam. Good amount of lace. Well carbonated and a tongue numbing, very drinkable as long as you like the sourness. Barrel woodiness mid sip satisfying cherry aftertaste. Thanks Flyingbison. Upgraded it with a two-year aged version consumed 5 years later.
