Indulge in our heady scotch ale. This "Winter Warmer" is a celebration of roasted toffee notes wrapped in rich tawny tones and toasty palate. Two months in the making insures an incredible silky finish. Scottish folklore tells that the first person to step over your threshold brings with them luck for the New Year. Simple gifts of coal for warmth, salt for prosperity and ale for joy symbolize the bearers wishes.

Bottle - its a strange time of year to be drinking this, but I love a good scotch ale and I love New Glarus, so... - hazy reddish pour - nose actually smells fairly oaky, with strong notes of vanilla and toasted coconut - there are the requisite notes of peat and light smoke, but also some tropical character - overall interesting aroma - nice, frothy carbonation in the mouth - flavor is much like the aroma - strong earthiness and light smoke - vanilla and toasted coconut - light tropical flavors - finish is medium dry, with light touches of peat - interesting and enjoyable beer, but not really a scotch ale.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate fruit, toffee, apple, and a touch of caramel. It pours a transparent amber with a one finger off-white head that fades to a thin film. There is some thin webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with fruit, toffee, and caramel. The finish has light-moderate apple with a hint of smoke. Its medium bodied with mild carbonation.

Solid for the style, but it?s not really my thing. Very malty, delicious but not refreshing. Boozy as it warms up.

Bottle purchased April 2013 at Woodmans in Janesville, WI Pours deep orange hue with some sediment with a everlasting soapy/fluffy white head with tons of carbonation. This seems to be a theme with alot of NG beers-tons of carbonation. nose is very phenolic, almost like a belgian or something. some red apples, various dark fruits, lite alcohol. Flavors show a ton of dark fruits, carmel malts, lite peat, especially late in the sip. finish is leafy, litely alcoholic, with lingering dark fruits. not really want i was expecting. Not bad but not great.

Bottle. Pours a pretty reddish copper with a big white head. Aroma is like a lager with a touch of peat. Taste is very boozy. Notes of bourbon, banana and some sweet malt. Palate is crisp with an aggressive carb. I'm not getting the toffee/caramel notes I expect and want and I'm not sure there's enough flavor to justify the booziness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle courtesy of Madbeerbaron. Fruity caramel and light toasty malt aroma. Slightly hazed deep copper with a huge off-white head. Follows the nose with fruity caramel, toasty, spicy, and slight alcohol flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation.

Bottle to snifter (thanks jmbroggren). Looks good for the style; a slightly hazy brownish-orange with off-white head that dissipates into lacing. Smells of caramel malt, dough, and light hops with a bit of toastiness. Tastes like it smells, only better, with some toffee too. Solid on the palate. A solid example of the style.

Deep caramel color. Caramel malts and some smoke on the nose. Malty, but balanced and full bodied. I prefer my winter warmers drier, but the sweetness works here. Smoke is very subtle but a nice touch.
