UPDATED: NOV 5, 2013 Pours dark, ruby tinted brown with a 1 finger, creamy tan head that has great retention and leaves bits of lacing. Aroma is dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate, sweet roasted nuts, hints of rum soaked fruit cake and a bit of ethanol. Flavor is chocolate, lots of dark fruit, rum soaked fruit cake, boozy, sweet sherry and thick, sweet bread crust. Palate is medium bodied, slick entry, dry finish, has a medium carbonation and more boozy alcohol burn than it should rightfully have. Overall, this stuff is o.k., but I was expecting better from New Glarus on this one. I’d definitely like to set a few of these aside and track their progress for the next couple of years. Update: 11.05.2013, three years and several tastings later, on my last bottle. Lost most of its chocolate and booziness, lost some of its dark fruit, the vinous notes, seem more pronounced, still some rum and a pretty big amount of toffee. It seems to have thinned out a bit, but maintains a pleasant mouthfeel, though it has lost much of it’s carbonation. Still decent, it may have gotten a bit more enjoyable with time, but only in the last year or so. With the gradually decreasing carbonation and increasing signs of oxidization, this was probably a good timeline to cash this one out on. Added 1 point to Taste, Palate and Overall. Obtained in trade from atxdelivery. Black pour from bottle. Soft, pillowy head. Aroma is a mixture of sherry and ice cream. Taste is brown sugar, raisins and grass. Warm finish. Complex and very enjoyable. theisti (4126) - Kansas, USA - AUG 31, 2010
12 oz bottle courtesy of csbosox. Pour is mostly clear mahogany golden with a smallish off white head that falls fast. Aroma is malty cherry sweetness along with clove yeast and general spiciness. Taste is malty, slightly roasty, cough syrup cherry sweetness, mild alcohol heat in the finish. Palate is medium to heavy, mouth coating, dry straw finish. Not really sweet, which works for me. As I drank this, it thinned out quite a bit. Skyview (6055) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - AUG 29, 2010
Picked up a four pack at the new brewery location, south of New Glarus, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear dark copper amber colored brew with an average sized off-white head that dissolves to a film top and white ring. Aroma of dark pitted fruits, a hint of wintergreen, cotton candy, figs, candi sugar, and a hint of vanilla. Taste is full bodied, flavors of banana, wintergreen (kind of like those sugary candy cigarettes), California figs, vanilla and a hint of yeast. Finish is semi-sweet, some light raisin, caramel malt and a little alcohol warmth. Most excellent Quad without the alcohol bite I am used to. thegreenrooster (4402) - St.louis, Missouri, USA - AUG 28, 2010
Pour is a dark red with a small tan head. Aroma is dark fruit with some molasses and candi sugar. Flavor stars out with a bit of dark fruit but is followed quickly with a lot of alcohol. Too much alcohol toward the end just puts this one in the maybe category.

12 oz bottle from Chicone’s. Dark amber / caramel colored pour, a finger of head that quickly fades away. Dark fruit aromas that come from a normal quad but they’re a bit faint. Same with the flavor, mouthfeel is a little thinner than I’d expect. Very good beer, just a little smaller than I expected. daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - AUG 28, 2010
Brown pour. Dusty, dank, tart aroma with some alcohol. Flavor has prunes, chocolate and raisins with some booze. Good. csbosox (1229) - Prairie Village, Kansas, USA - AUG 25, 2010
12oz bottle. Chimay chalice. Cocoa, misson figs, rum, vanilla and maltiness in the aroma. The aroma is subtle, possibly due to the choice of glassware. Moderately dark reddish color with brilliant clarity and a wispy head. Figs, rum, slight banana and some spice at the finish. Hides the alcohol well. arminjewell (9664) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - AUG 23, 2010
Pours deep red with thin white head, aroma is rum, dark fruit, and molasses. Taste is similar with emphasis on raisin character. Good brew, just not quite as complex as normal abt brews. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - AUG 23, 2010
(Draught and 12oz bottle, courtesy of blutt59) Pours a clear deep amber body with moderate beige head. Aroma of raisins, dates, caramel, and molasses. Flavor of raisins, Belgian yeast, dates, caramel, subtle vanilla, and brown sugar.
