"Some people paint, some sing, others write ... I brew." - Daniel Carey

A few times a year, we will cut Dan loose to brew whatever he chooses, uncensored, uncut, unplugged. Always handcrafted, the bottle you hold is brewed for the adventurous soul. This is a very limited edition and we make no promises to ever brew this style again.

Napoleon hailed this tart beer style "the Champagne of the North." A lively and elegant masterpiece this Berliner Weiss is a kaleidoscope of fresh flavor. Barrel fermentation, Pinot Grigio, Riesling grapes and Wisconsin White Wheat are bottle fermented with five proprietary yeast strains. A connoisseurs rare jewel both spirited and subtle, enjoy your sparkling toast under summer stars.

Sampled at the Carolina Crew Gathering. Light yellow pour, fluffy white head. Plenty of carbonation. Lightly sour aroma and flavor. Grapes are very apparent in both aroma and flavor as well. Dry finish. Very unique and enjoyable.

Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #92. 12 ounce bottle consumed at my parents house, August 7 2008. A huge, billowy snow-white head decays at moderate pace over a hazy luminous gold body...farmy, tart and earthy aroma, dry manure and fresh hay, assertive pungent herbs and flowers, sour fruits (unripe raspberries and apples), perhaps a bit of lime...quite tart throughout, also juicy, sour apples and lemons mixing with earthy, musty qualities, mineralic and salty towards the finish...full, with strong but smooth and nicely calibrated carbonation. I wish I could do a side-by-side between this and the later Thumbprint version (which I have notes for...somewhere) but I believe I liked the later one a little better. This was still fine though and I wish Id saved some, though after 8 years I dont know what theyd be like.

Bottle tossed to me as a trade extra from @@aron, thanks! Guessing around 2010 or so? Honestly I was not expecting much from such an old bottle, but this one surprised. Pours hazy pale golden with a medium creamy white head that dissipates slowly with nice lacing. Aroma is wheat bread, lemon, hints of salt, sour mash. Flavor is light tart, lactose, wheat, bready, lemon. Light body and just really really good.

Bottle shared at Guinns house thanks to Ben. Pours a light yellow with a foamy white head. Aroma is tart apples and lemons. Flavor seems to fall flat a bit. Slightly earthy, and not nearly as tart as expected. But overall, a nice, interesting beer.

"i dont know exactly what i was expecting from this new style, but i can safely say pinot & reisling grapes was not it. right after opening, the complex sweet white wine aroma was inticing. it did not prepare me for the tart/sour/green apple/lemon citrus aspects of the flavor, which were also quite nice. this is one lively beer, and the surprise of the night!"

Pours a pale golden color with a finger of white fizz. Nose has some wet wood, lacto, mineral driven riesling and some round hints of wheat. Palate follows, a touch watery but as the palate adjusts it opens to more complexity. Nice slate like backdrop with light lacto, rustic wheat and some hints of sweet riesling and limestone.

Bottle. Another overcarbonated New Glarus beer, have had several of these lately. Cloudy light yellow, lots of bubbles. Smell is very off, heavy soap, musty. Good flavor, crisp lemon, some tartness, but light for the style.

Nice. Sweet with a modicum of sour. Am fairly new with this style but am enjoying this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy orange pour with some soured fruit, citrus, and a few other tasty bites. One of the better unplugged beers that has lasted time. Good Stuff.

12oz at my place with group. Pours light yellow. Aroma is orange barnyard. Taste is salt orange light. Finish is quicker. Mouthfeel is very light.

Bottle shared at Craft Clerko, 06/06/13 - thanks to Nathan the Brigadier. Hazed orange amber with a thin off white head that dissipates. Nose is soured fruit, orange, lemon rind, grape skins, damp wood, over ripened apples. Taste comprises light sour tones, cherry stones, orange rind, musty, grape skin. Light to medium bodied, moderate carbonation, subtle tarte puckerings in the finale. A well constructed BW.
