THE Barleywine tasting. Clear very dark brown beer, not much of a head. Light dry palate, smooth. Nice smooth malts here but by God this is a salty bastard of a beer, too much so. Could hardly taste anything else. Finishes semi dry.
Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of TheCheeseMan. Clear warm amber with a small off-white head. Oxidized aroma of overripe fruit, caramel and lots of alcohol. Medium body, caramel, overripe fruit, no real bitterness but a massive snd burning slcohol finish. 130909 Leighton (22544) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 22, 2013
Bottle at THE Barley Wine Tasting - East Croydon. Thanks to Ken for this bottle. Pours mostly clear, copper-ruby with a fine, white foam head. Jammy fruit aroma, some caramel, alcohol. Big sweet flavor, quite spicy, some pine, heavy alcohol notes, caramel. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, boozy finish with a bit of earthy hoppiness, stinging alcohol, dry caramel. Too hot and a tough too bitter. Not very graceful.
