Smoke on the Porter began with our neighbors at Hoeslys Meats. Their smoke house aromas waft through our door creating a special kind of decadence that must be shared. Wisconsin barleys were generously cold smoked with apple wood by the Hoesly family. Brewmaster Dan then harnesses dark malts smoked in Bamberg to create a team that steps out as a creamy smooth black brew that will forever linger in your mind as Smoke on the Porter.

A- Body is a dark brown nearly black hue. Pours with a foamy 1-2 finger dark tan head-which eventually fades to a thin collar and leaves little lacing in the glass. S- Decent amount of smoke, smoked meat, a hint of roasted malt and vanilla underneath. T- The taste is a lot more reserved and less in your face than the nose. The initial flavors are good, classic porter flavors. Slightly sweet overall0 Vanilla, chocolate, a hint of roasted malt. The finish adds a touch of smoked meat to everything else thats already going on and balances everything out perfectly. M-Medium carbonation and a nice smooth creamy mouthfeel. D- This is a very good beer overall. Great mouthfeel-good smoke character over a porter. Very well balanced and easy to drink-too bad this is limited. Sweet and smokey. Super good smoked beer. Just exactly the right amount of smoke married perfectly to a classic porter. Really nice.

Multiple bottles over the past few weeks Pours very dark brown almost black with a nice small tight lacking head and sparse lacing. Nice looking brew for sure. Nose is smokey wood lots of dark chocolate and lite char. Flavors are lite smoke up front lite metallic minerals big dark chocolate lite char. Finish is lovely lite smoke and very dry. Fantastic brew here. I think I like this more than Alaskan smoked porter. Body is full yet fairly crisp for the style and abv. Another home run from NG.

Smoke on the Porter? Hmm, wonder what style New Glarus has brewed here... New Glarus has absolutely upped the ante for smokiness with this ale. Brown color. Aroma is intensely meaty. Its the mouth-watering salty smell of cured, smoked bacon and country ham. Just a bit of tobacco in there, too. My only regret about drinking this beer is that I didnt enjoy it with some of Wisconsins Bavarian-style sausages. After all, the state isnt just known for its cheese.

Bottle. A- Smoke, savory. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Smoke, umami, meaty. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, smoky finish. O- Definitely a ton of smokiness. Wish it had a tad more porter characteristics but still tasty. A bit thin too.

12oz bottle pours a dark brown with amber highlights and a large khaki head. Aroma of smoked malt and molasses. Taste begins with sweet chocolate and molasses with smoked ashy malt hitting earthy bitter hops. Nice!

Deep dark pour with a little red on the edges underneath a single finger tan colored head. Lace present. Aroma of smoke and a hint of fruity yeast. Slightly sweet, like a campfire smoke. Medium bodied. Taste is full of sweet campfire smoke. Reminds me of what burned wood smells like after a fire Taste also has some fruity esters and yeast notes. Nice beer.

Tasted from bottle. Pours black with tan head. Aroma is big time bacon and smoked meats. Taste is mildly bitter with some smoky sweetness. Campfire smokey flavor is not overpowering. Flavors of cured meats, coffee, faint dark chocolate. Just a little more thin than Iike but very well done. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
