yeaty notes accent a pale malt nose with some earthy hop tones. Pale golden, hazy body, and a thin, dense white head. Bready, pale malt front, leaves grainy and dry after a lively delivery. some cloying brings out a corn component. This is like a lagered wheat beer. Fantastic in the humid Wisconsin summer evenings, but not bad in Oregon’s either. 5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - SEP 29, 2004
Bottle pours a hazy light golden, small white fizzlfoamy head, hearty carbonation, with so-so lacing.   Minor fruits, malts, and a bit bready on the nose.   Flavor of malts and wheat bread.   Full bodied, good mouthfeel.   Unsweetened malts and bready sum this one up.   Not bad!   Thanks goes out to footbalm for the trade! A crisp and fruity lager. Low on bitterness and as such reminiscent of Helles. Golden and color and slightly cloudy. Very nice. If I could get this regularly, it’d drink it regularly. Pigfoot (2268) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - SEP 5, 2004
Appearance: slightly murky, yellow, with a full, bright white head.
Aroma: clean, fresh, though slightly corny and vegetal.
Taste: clean, and smooth, with a light mouthfeel, tasted rather slick, though, a bit sweetish, with a neat little hop appearance, and a short finish. Great drinkability, I can down it quite happily with nary a bit of trouble or trial.
I’ve had another beer that was supposed to be a zwieckel which I didn’t care for at all, and if this is how they ought to be, maybe I do like zwieckels after all. Nice, tasty, smooth lager. Can I have another, please?

My first beer in the style, and I was favorably impressed. Amber-yellow, moderate head. Subtle, sweet aroma, hinting at citrus. Not as hazy as I was expecting, though that doesn’t mean much. Fresh flavor, "clean", nothing untoward in the hopping as I might have expected if I were having a generic "German-style" lager with Hallertau or similar hopping. Slightly disappointing palate, which seemed a bit flat in the second half. Good beer, worth trying. Thanks Kevin42 for saving me a bottle!

Light amber-orange color, good head. Nice fruity, organic flavors. Good summertime brew. Lumpy (1802) - Carrollton, Texas, USA - JUN 26, 2004
Bottle from Kevin42. Thin retentive head, straw golden color. Initial flavors are honey, straw, hops, and malt. There is a taste almost like bread dough that is very nice. Very nice mouthfeel. Finish is a little bitter and sweet/citrusy at the same time. This is a very good tasting beer. The word refreshing comes to mind. The best New Glarus beer that I have had thus far. Consumed this alongside a 6’er of Spotted Cow this week. In comparison, full flavored and invigorating at first, then a little disappointing in aftertaste. Still, a fresh, airy, and affordable zwickel. fomentateur (110) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 7, 2004
Copper color with a light head. Somewhat fruity in aroma. More on the full bodied side. Malty and somewhat estery.
Somewhat sweet in the finish.
