COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Since the early 1600's, the Dutch have attempted to breed a pure black tulip. Many have tried and a few have come close...but none have succeeded. Call it the Holy Grail of the tulip world. In honor of this elusive flower we have brewed this special elixir. We have combined the finest Belgian malt, rare European hops, an authentic Belgian yeast and finally, the brew is dusted with tulip petals. The resulting blend is nothing less than magical.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2005 Bottle, purchased July í05. I keep focusing on the name and being surprised when this pours out a nice golden color, with a blush of red in the center. Aroma is a light syrup with overtones of medicinal alcohol. Extra strong taste, but not as ďbeeryĒ as might be expected. Strange rubbery aftertaste, with notes of pear and apricot, then a strong suggestion of honey. My label does not mention the tulip petals, certainly canít get any suggestion of it in this batch. Despite the distractions mentioned here, itís a fine, heady drink, at least pleasing to the eye.

At 9% alcohol I have no reason to complain. However, the flavors are not really the best.

Smell of yeast and sour fruit, vinegar. Come clear golden color with thin white crown. Taste of yeast and sour fruit, somewhat bland. Slightly slimy texture. Just ok. Donít feel the tripel.

12oz bottle. A crystalline gold pour with some minimal head. The aroma is sweet and alcoholic - the way I feel about most tripels. The flavors carry a bit of hop cleanliness and the traditional Belgian yeast. I liked the name and the label, but this struck me as standard tripel. I am unfortunately not the best audience for this particular style.

Itís just kinda boring. You get some serious fruit notes, but theyíre all very dull. Itís body is almost too light making it like drinking a juice or cider. I am just not impressed by this beer. Itís very underwhelming.

for a second, the flavor is world class; the beginning of the taste... then gets a littly honey, syrupy, medicinal, messy. nice aroma - floral, honey. the end of taste lowers from what this could have been.

Bottle to tulip. Gold straw in the glass. Fine thin white head. Nose is bready yeast with a faint floral overtone. Palate is sweet, floral honey over a bread heavy yeast. The high abv is well hidden. Finishes sweet and lasting.
