Pours an opaque black with a thin tan head. Aroma has notes of chocolate, espresso, barrel, charcoal. Tasting notes include chocolate, coffee, dried fruits, and sweet. Mouth feel is thick and oily, very sweet, finishes with an acrid sweet bitterness. Very tasty!

Thick, dark body and a halfinger of foam. Heavy malt and vanilla dominate the olfactory. Flavor is very sweet with an even sweeter finish. In mouth, this drink is oily, heavy and not meant to be drunk with dry roasted peanuts!

Tap: I did NOT have this at Ashley’s, where it appears some of the later samples got tainted. Super deep brown, not quite "black", but close. Light-tan foam sits at a few mils for a while. No lacing, none expected. Aroma is balanced between smooth, rich cherry sweetness, light cinnamon spice, warming bourbon soaked wood, & some dark, underlying malt; cocoa, roast, & charred sugar. Taste also has a nice cherry sweetness blunted by a that cinnamon-like spiciness, as well as the smooth notes of bourbon, vanilla, wood, & bitter chocolate. Lingering vanilla, cherry purée, bourbon, & toasted brown sugar coat the palate in the finish. Big, robust, woody aftertaste. Still a little thin on the mouth feel, but not a deal breaker. It’s INSANE how much better this is than original Dragon’s Milk. New Holland should just scrap the regular version & consider making this year-round, or even seasonally. This was very tasty stuff.

On tap at Ashley’s on March 25. The pour on this thing is a little different. It’s an orangey-brown with a ring of off-white head and no lacing to be found. The aroma is rather great; a strong cherry presence with quite a bit of booziness that I remember from the regular Dragon’s Milk on the front end. There is a dark fruit, other than the cherry, note on the back end. The flavor is more geared to the boozy side of things. There isn’t much of a complexity, but it is just as advertised. It’s a Dragon’s Milk with a little more vanilla and definitely a bit of cherry. The mouth feel is definitely thin, but surprisingly carbonated, and the aftertaste is sweet and lingering

On tap at Ashley’s Ann Arbor. Pours black or deep brown with an off-white head. Cocoa aroma mixes with a tart cherry and alcohol note. Syrupy cocoa flavor, bourbon-like molasses, definite cherry. Pretty nice one.

This was OK. The aroma reminded me of Cherry Coke. It had a dark color with a fringe of red. Kind of cool. The palate was average and smooth, carbonation was a little low. This was a beer that couldn’t make up its mind what it wanted to be be. There were some roasted flavors followed by Cherry that I’m not sure blended that well. Other fruitiness contributed to it being like a soft sour or fruit beer. Dryness at the end. Good but tasted experimental.

Had a glass on tap as part of a flight at Ashley’s. Very big and boozy. Not a lot of cherry, but some coffee and chocolate.

On tap at Ashley’s. Pours black, almost no head, no lacing. Aroma is sweet cherry, vanilla, oak, booze. Taste is strong cherry sweetness with some barrel notes. Very unbalanced. Thin, yet medium bodied, abrupt sweet finish, low carbonation. An interesting idea that just doesn’t come together.

10 oz serving at Ashleys (Ann Arbor) where it is listed as Ashleys 30th Anniv. Cherry Dragon’s Milk Stout. Black with traces of red-brown at the edges. Small head. Full, smooth body. Appropriate low carbonation. Good cherry note in the aroma carries over nicely to the flavor. Fruit is well balanced with dark malts. May be a touch too sweet for some.

Glass at Ashley’s on 3/30/13. Darkest brown pour with a medium beige head. Aroma of cherries, chocolate and vanilla. Cherry and vanilla flavor with some alcohol before a creamy chocolate finish. I have to be in the right mood to enjoy regular Dragon’s Milk, but this one was quite delicious.
