4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the score, Aroma is chocolate and peppers. Taste is bourbon and chocolate up front with some subtle pepper, and then the pepper really kicks in... very nice
12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 10/5/2015. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, molasses, chili pepper, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of licorice, dark fruit, coffee, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, chilies, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, molasses, chili pepper, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of licorice, dark fruit, coffee, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light chili pepper and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, molasses, chili pepper, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, chilies, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great malt/barrel/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slight increasing dryness from pepper spice through the glass. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Minimal warming alcohol for 11%; light pepper heat builds through the glass, but never becomes overwhelming. Overall this is an excellent pepper spiced imperial stout! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, chilies, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. This was a lot more balanced than the 2014 version, which felt way too hot on the peppers. This one still has nice earthy pepper flavors, with increasing spice and heat; but they never overpower the base beer. A very enjoyable offering. Angelmonster (202) - Colorado, USA - OCT 19, 2016
Review is of bottle from 10/2015. 1 year old
Pours a black body with a small, 1/5th of an inch sand colored head. Lacing and head retention are average.
Smell is big on burnt oak, roasted malt, and some alcohol. Chilis’ are super light and no hops detected. Sweet toffee comes through as beer warms.
Taste is big on chili, roasted malts, smoky oak and alcohol. Toffee balances out the heat nicely, no hops present.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and well carbonated. Slightly thin for the style, low head retention doesnt help.
Overall, I thought the chilis’ in this beer were great. Didnt get much vegetal aroma/flavor but the heat was definitely there. I think that I’m just not too fond of the base beer. Dragons milk isnt bad but I think its just middle of the road in terms of everything. That being said, this version of it is unique, would try again. nuplastikk (6514) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 7, 2016
Tap at Blue Moon. Unfiltered, thick, black body. Big, foamy, beige head. End of the keg. Mostly big chocolate in the aroma. The heat isn’t overbearing, but certainly adds some depth. Big cocoa, mellow oak tones still take center stage. The chilies shine in the aftertaste. Pretty awesome big Milk Stout. Remains drinkable even with the formidable ABV. Quite nice, though the malts sort of seem DME boosted to me, not really the depth I’d expect for 11 percent. Hair6a11 (1481) - Illinois, USA - JUN 14, 2016
Bottle; Pour is murky brown - lively carb - a fine bubbled khaki head - it retains on the average side, with light spotting. Well - it starts off with chocolate cake - lactose sugar, dark fruits, and vanilla presence. The flavor profile is a touch unsettling initially - things round out and square away pretty quickly - however. This lineup of stouts can be summed up as quaffable, over sweet american imperials at a decent price point, and this one is no difference. Chocolate syrup meshes with vanillin, dark fruit, cocoa powder, moving to feint alcohol and lactose notes - the pepper spice is present at the finish line. slowrunner77 (13206) - Reno, Nevada, USA - MAR 13, 2016
I’ve never had Dragons Milk in the bottle (only on tap) so I don’t quite have a direct comparison. At first the aroma and body are behind what I remember, but it opens up very nicely. The flavor is great right from the get go - bourbon, chocolate, chili, vanilla. Love the lingering mild heat on the finish.
Not as good as DM was on tap, but still very very nice.

Draft at Khyber Pass. Black pour with light brown foam. The chili heat is apparent from the outset and (expectedly) only grows with each sip. A softer chocolate stout underneath but the spicy chili dominates. The underlying beer is hidden. It is all about the Chilli! Boutip (6628) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 7, 2016
Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a large dark brown foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with black chocolate and some light bourbon notes with subtle chilies flavours is pretty awesome. Aroma of roasted malt and black chocolate with some bourbon notes are good but the chillies notes are a bit string for my taste buds and ends up overtaking all the other flavours. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Probably well brewed but this is still a bit too hot for my taste buds. sjogro (5116) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - FEB 26, 2016
Bottle shared by RandomStrangerNL at Ex-ABC. Dark brown, light tan head. Starts smooth and oathy but the chilies kick in its hard to taste anything else. Mild sweet insane spicy. Maakun (6814) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - FEB 26, 2016
UPDATED: FEB 27, 2016 Bottle shared thanks to RandomstrangerNL. Very dark brown with dark beige head. Nice chilies, dark chocolate, sweet grains, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, slight smoke, soft spices. Quite sweet with light roasted bitter finish. Over medium bodied with pretty strong chili burn. Pretty good, but gets more and more spicy the more you drink. I think I’d have a hard time to finish more than one whole glass, still a nice beer though. kermis (14999) - The Hague / Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - FEB 26, 2016
Bottle sampled at THT. Very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of veggie chillis, malt, caramel, toffee and milk chocolate. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet. Above medium bodied with a massive chilli burn in the throat and soft carbonation. Too much with the chillis.
