3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
This was pretty pricey ($16 for a 4-pack where I live), it better be good. I have heard great things about this one; finally decided to try it myself. Dragon’s Milk pours dark brown instead of black and it looks more like a porter than a stout. It has a very light tan head. Different looking than my favorite stouts, so I’m docking it a few points there. Biased for sure, but It’s my review. The aroma is a little light for such a big stout. There is some cappuccino, bourbon sweetness, malt, black licorice and dark chocolate. Good smell, but I was expecting stronger. The taste is a perfect mash-up of a milk stout (is that why it’s called Dragon’s Milk?) and a coffee stout. Think of a watered down version of your favorite bourbon barrel aged stout. The palate was disappointing. Watery, thin with an aftertaste of coffee bitterness and not much else. This brew is exceedingly drinkable for 10% ABV, but I don’t feel that it’s worth the money. Good, not great. If I were RB, I wouldn’t give it a 98. More like an 85.
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2018 Nice dark color with a tan head. Strong bourbon flavor with mild chocolate undertones. Great with a steak! kingaugusta (301) - Georgia, USA - JAN 12, 2018
Pours dark brown with a good tan lacing. Nose is lots of oak and chocolate. Flavor is a smooth and balanced blend of chocolate, coffee and cream, oak, and just a touch of alcohol. Finish is fairly short and sweet. Very good. DenverLogan (1302) - North Bend, Washington, USA - JAN 3, 2018
I've had this off and on for many years and always been impressed. This time it's in a 4-pack of 12 oz bottles/ Pours near black with brown head and lace. Aroma of dark malts, bourbon, cocoa. Medium carbonation and significant mouthfeel. Flavors of dark malts, dark chocolate, whiskey, minerals, peat, and wet rag. Overall rich, bold, hardy and tasty. Always a tasty treat. 17Beer (450) - Connecticut, USA - JAN 2, 2018
12 oz bottle. Big scents of chocolate and bourbon with the alcohol showing in the nose. Pours an opaque brown with a thick brown head that dissipates over time. Sheets of lacing. Sweet and warming flavors of alcohol, cheery and a little smoke. The sweetness lingers a little too much. Lots of character but not quite under control. Very oily mouthfeel and a little cloying in the finish. StoutBeerReviews (274) - Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 28, 2017
U kno, this is really good stuff right here. maybe ive warmed up to barrel aged imperials since the last. nice strong bite up front and a warming sweetness that lingers as it goes down. its woody and roasty with a bit of vanilla sweetness to round it off.

Black pour, shadow of a tan head. Nose is vanilla, bourbon, and coco. It is like velvet across the tongue; oak, vanilla, blackened malt, bourbon, and chocolate. Finish is bittersweet and long. Powerful beer. ironcontra (494) - ATL, Georgia, USA - DEC 13, 2017
I neglected to take detailed notes on this one but I remember it being rather typical, milk+chocolate fare. Didnt get a nice BA counterpoint unfortunately, seemed a bit 1D chris__hartley (458) - Ontario, CANADA - DEC 10, 2017
It pours opaque black; the head is beige and mousse like. The aroma has notes of: rum, raisins, molasses, anise, charcoal, chocolate, and leather. The taste is medium sweet that finishes medium bitter. The palate is full bodied with light carbonation, and has a long finish. Overall, it's one of the nicer things about MI. Pours black with three finger foamy head. Aroma is roast, chocolate and bourbon. Taste is milk chocolate, leading to roast and a bourbon finish. A very nice bourbon stout. AleRider78 (1503) - Winchester, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 2, 2017
Pours a fairly small frothy tan head that dissipates to just a thin coating. Has a deep dark brown appearance. Decent sticky lacing. Aromas of dark roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate and hints of coffee. Flavours are mostly roasted malts and chocolate, earthy and resin notes, the bourbon notes are quite noticeable in the finish but not overly offensive. Quite a nice and smooth mouthfeel, but also a little bit oily and slick. Lots of sweetness as well. Goes down extremely well for a high abv brew. Good stuff!
