El Segundo has no idea what he is talking about. Maybe his bottle got a bit to shaken on its way to Califoria. This beer is fantastic. A very flavorful porteresque brown. Andrew196 (1978) - Katy, Texas, USA - NOV 24, 2002
A beautiful beer....ridiculous head....one of those heads that just shoots up to the top the instant the beer hits the bottom of the glass. It had a sweet vegetable flavor with notes of coffee....not bad. hotbod47 (26) - flint, Michigan, USA - NOV 7, 2002
I have sample a few of the New Holland brews in the last couple of days. I think that I got a bad batch because they were either too carbonated or not carbonated enough. In this particular case I couldn't even pour this beer in the glass because there was soo much head. All in all this beer wasn't too bad. A little much for the palate and the begining and end, but the middle of the drink was very good. Also it is a little thick for a brown ale. not bad though i would definitely consider re-rating this beer

This wasn't a bad beer overall, but the roasted coffee flavor made it taste more like a weak porter than a brown. New Holland has better beers. brownalegirl (199) - Fountain, Michigan, USA - OCT 6, 2002
I'm pining for Bown River brown, so the fact that this one builds less hop action and more traditional nut brown flavors damns it just a little. But it really is a fine, round, full flavored beer and worthy of its own praise.

Deep amber-brown colour with a nice tan head. Nutty/chocolatey, lightly roasted aroma. The flavour is rich and bitter with notes of chocolate and hops. This is definitely one of New Hollands better offerings. Kathy (241) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 21, 2002
Has a very rich, malty aroma that somehow borders on Play Doh. The color is a rich, deep brown with on ly a hint of red. The flavor is smooth, rich, deep with some hop bite in the finish. Very nice. It ends with a malty, cordial-ish flavor. Oakes (18543) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 23, 2002
Dark burgundy; glosette raisins aroma; some paper but beyond that light fruitiness and a pleasurably mellow brown. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - JUL 22, 2002
Deep brown, little head. Sweet deep aroma, complex malty with hint of alcohol (port). Taste is roasty, sweet malty, with a pleasant hint of alcohol. Good body that finishes malty bitter. Very nice beer! Volgon (2763) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - JUL 22, 2002
RateBeer Summer (Toronto) '02: Pours a medium brown color, really big malty aroma that has a lot going on. Unfortunately doesn't taste as good (but with a long robust aftertaste), but still top notch.
