This was damn good. Has a chocolaty taste with a hint of coffee. I was so impressed I filled my growler up with it.
Sweet molasses smell. Dark translucent brown pour with thick foamy head. Sweet on the tongue, a little roasty. Thin, watery body. Tmoney99 (14970) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 15, 2012
Draft sample at NH Brewpub. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted nutty malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth sticky texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Complex solid brew. esjaygee (3906) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 25, 2012
On tap at New Holland Brewpub. Dark brown with a creamy tan crown and a ring of lace. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, darker malts and some light cocoa. Taste is dark and tasty with roasted malt, nuts, chocolate and a semi-chalky and metallic finish. Decent but a bit too metallic as it warmed. JaBier (8253) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - FEB 5, 2010
Sample at New Holland. Clear brown pour with a medium beige head. Caramel malt nose with a bit of hop and a hint of cognac. Caramel malt flavor with a hint of smoke and pear before a hoppy finish. Pretty solid. TexasAggie12 (64) - Burnet, Texas, USA - FEB 23, 2006
Very dark colored beer. Thin head and a aroma of malt and nuts. The flavor was good with a hint of sweet malt and nuts, maybe a touch of chocolate, and nice hoppy finish. Really ingulfs the mouth when drinking this semi thick brew.

On tap at New Holland. Deep sanguine red-brown body (probably the darkest brown ale I’ve tried), thin off-white head. Light aroma (I hate it when brewpubs serve their beers too cold), grainy and toasty/nutty. Flavor was very chocolatey and nutty with some raosted toasty aspects, kind of winey/grapey and woody. Has a tannin-heavy mouthfeel that coats the mouth. Just a touch of dark fruits before the long, roasted bitter finish. JoeM500 (1909) - Crown Point, Indiana, USA - NOV 3, 2004
Dark pint, from brewpub tapper. Light nutty nose and some bitterness. First taste is faint with coffee, hazlenut and cream. Fluffy body, and taste is decent enough to enjoy a full pint of. raindog (560) - Evansville, Indiana, USA - JUL 2, 2003
Dark brown, with a decent, khaki head. Good retention and lace.Little nutty, coffee, hops in aroma.Aroma seems pretty empty.Mouthfeel is creamy.Pretty big body.Plenty of nutty, roasty, light coffee flavors.Finish lingers not overly done with hops. Not bad, worth a try. Great brown ale. Big malty and hoppy flavor - maybe not as big as Bell's Best Brown, but very good.
