UPDATED: NOV 26, 2016 Overall a pretty standard IPA. Doesn?t have the pine sweetness that I like to balance out an IPA.

Everything was muted...aroma, taste and bitterness. I see no reason to push Michigan ingredients. I support free trade...and always using the best from around the globe!

From the bottle the beer pours an amber color with nice head. The aroma has some citrus and some malts. Taste is pretty smooth with some hops up front followed by some herbs and flowers.

On tap at Happy Gnome. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has a decent amount of citrus supported by bread and grain notes. Flavor has a combination of grass and sweet citrus with a bread backbone.

Pours a copper color with a long-lasting, foamy white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma is floral, pine, resin, and caramel. Flavor is citrus, earthy, pine, floral, and resin notes coming through, along with the caramel. Has some lively carbonation and a smooth body and moderate bitterness. At first I didn’t care for this, but the more I drink the more I like it. Pretty good.

22oz bottle. at MAH. Earthy and meh. Nothing awesome about it. The ingredients may be localish but the beer kind of sucks. Not awesome. Bland, earthy, mediiocre at best. Friendly numbers..

The Michigan Awesome Hatter combines the successful Hatter IPA series with the fresh hop craze. The results are... kind of weird. On the one side, this IPA reveals some nuanced elements you don’t always get in an IPA. Caramely and subtle chocolate malt foundation. Hop flavors feature an herbaceous tea-like quality, berry notes, and citrus. On the other side, this doesn’t seem much like an IPA at all. The crispness and bold aromatics just aren’t there. Like the other Hatters, this one’s fun to try. Definitely not my favorite release in the series, though.

Darker than expected appearance, but a mild overall IPA. Light citrus aroma, sort of weak, somewhat stale bitter finish.
