3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Medium golden brown body with large white head leaving sud lines. Has a citrusy earthy smell. Taste almost bitter with a mild finish leaving a after taste that lingers.
22oz bottle, 2012 vintage. How did I let an IPA sit on a shelf this long ... my bad. Being a hophead, I tend to drink my hoppy beers right away, this one got mixed up ...but wasn’t undrinkable. That really doesn’t say much ... corby112 (2813) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 16, 2015
Pours a clear dark copper/golden orange color with tangerine edges and a half finger off-white head that immediately fades into a thin ring. Minimal spotty lacing left behind. Frank (4240) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 27, 2015
Floral, earthy hop aroma with a nice balance of resinous, earthy notes and sweet citrus/tropical fruit charater. There’s a stronger malt presnce than expected with hints of caramel, graham cracker, toffee and biscuit. Soily with pine needle and spruce tip countered by grapefruit sweetness and zesty orange peel.
Lighter bodied than expected with a earthy hop bitterness that lingers over the sweeter malt notes into a dry finish. Not overly bitter or resinous but it’s pretty dry with lots of spicy grass, soil and pine needle flavor. Citrus/tropical notes are subtle with some pineapple and orange zest providing a touch of sweetness. More malt character than expected with caramel sweetness, toffee, bread and biscuit. Decently balanced and light enough to drink easily but the hop flavor isn’t very intersting which is odd considering the use of cascade.
I am not a fan of Michigan as a state generally. The highways are horrid and they suck at football. This said, they brew some pretty damn good beer up there and I am man enough to admit it. Brewing good beer does not extend to growing good beer ingredients though as eveidenced by the fact that this is in every way inferior to the various Hatters brewed with ingredients grown elsewhere. It’s your standard cloudy orange with a long-lasting head of mixed bubbles. The hop character here is passably decent--kinda vaguely piney and citrusy--but nothing at all strikes me as particularly vibrant or delicious. There is kind of an earthy toasty malt character to this, which is pretty nice, but that is mitigated by the fact that this is a little on the sweet and heavy side to be drinkable. It finishes w/ a lingering resinous, earthy bitterness. This stuff is decent at best and certainly I expect much better from the brewer. arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JUN 2, 2015
Pour on tap at Busters on 28th, clear orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of grass, pine, slight lemon into some bread, biscuit, spice. Taste was a mix of pine, grass, some slight spice into bread, biscuit, some slight earth, touch of fruit, finishing bitter. Travlr (26198) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - DEC 21, 2014

On tap at Graydon’s Crossing. Mild hoppy nose, light funk from bad line or cleanser, raw grain. Cloudy dark amber with thin lacing head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Mild IPA-hoppy, with grassy notes. Mild bitter finish with smooth after. OK. hman43 (1802) - Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA - AUG 2, 2014
It pours a dark orange color with a rather nice fluffy head. There is considerable lacing on the side as the head disappears. There is a caramel aroma with scents of dried fruits and apricots. There is a taste of caramel and dried fruits with tinges of apricots. It is not as bitter as most IPA;s, but is pleasant on the way down. cheap (6124) - Beaver Valley, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 20, 2014
On tap, probably one of the better IPA I’ve tasted. Darker pale thing like lighter iced tea. has smell if simple clear beer, quite fresh and not too hoppy on the nose. Quite flat. ild medicinal feel to this one. Easy going even tho there is that slight medicinal feel in ot. Yes, quite a bit of personality but not over the to and it never gets in yer face. unclemattie (4406) - Georgia, USA - JUL 2, 2014
Vintage 2013, silver foil, 22oz bottle. Light brown, copper color. Creamy foam, light fluffy carbonation. Flavor is of toasted barley, caramel malt, grassy hops, earthy character. Really nice aroma. Has a great balance of malt and hops. Not my favorite IPA but really tasty.
