Bottle from Rays in Tosa. Black pour with a tan head. Nose has initially big raisin, with chocolate and caramel. Some molasses. Not bad in the blend. Taste is of sweet caramel, chocolate, rum raisin ... and alcohol. Later down in the glass it gets a burnt caramel alcoholly slant with marshmallow to it. Medium to full bodied. With alcohol. Finishes nicely bittersweet with an alcohol kicker. As ever with New Holland, pieces are there, but the overall fails. A bit more chocolate and a bit less alcohol, and this is quite good. 13.7

12 oz single bottle from Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits in Muscatine, poured into a snifter. Vigorous pour results in a black appearance with a small khaki head that lingers. Aroma of dark malts, molasses, dark chocolate, roast, light vanilla, light espresso, a touch of dark fruits and a slight hint of alcohol at times. Similar flavor, rich, dark and roasted with a moderately sweet, light bitter finish. Full body with a smooth, creamy feel and soft carbonation. Good stuff, better than their Dragons Milk IMO. Give Dr. Johns Gris-Gris album a spin while you sip on this one.

I could drink this every day! Pours black with a tan head that clings to the glass. Use a snifter to fully appreciate the chocolatey aroma. Each sip fills your mouth with its thick, full bodied, nectar of Western Michigan. The finish lingers on, but

Black pour from 22oz bottle at home. Foamy white head. A heavy whiskey flavor. Cocoa and slight sweet flavor. Not loving it. But assuming it might be the moment.

Aroma is coffee, fruit/dark fruit and a small hint of funk. The flavor is dark malts, slightly burnt toast, dark fruit/berries/vinous and a warming/alcoholic finish.

This would be a great Mother's Day gift to get your mother if she put you up for adoption and you were still holding a grudge. This stuff is awful.

12oz into a Allagash stemmed glass, bottle says 11.5 abv, 2015 edition. Pours a black meshed with brown highlights. White/tan creamy lacing, ample head, retention is solid. Aroma of booze, toasty malts, black licorice, figs, blackberry. Taste of bitter malts, roasty and chewy with a tang. Choco, vanilla, dark roast coffee, booze in aftertaste. A big brew with a large presence. Drinkable in a slow train environment, fortified by friends and time. An imp stout through and through, with excellence balance and the knowledge of you ate getting what was promised. A nice endeavor in late April in the Western mass hills while spring is hiding somewhere. Excellent.

Poured into a pint chalice. Very dark brown with a large head, but just right for aesthetics. The head is a mochachino froth color. Cadbury chocolate and chocolate liquer on the nose. A little marshmallow is noted too. Moderately thick. Items detected in the aromas appear in the flavors, except theres a notable smokiness that doesnt get expressed in the nose.
