This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you’ll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

Aroma of coffee. Dark Black Color. Starts off a touch sweet, with coffee, and chocolate. Has a bitter finish, but a but bit too bitter. The mouthful is watery. Its an OK sweet stout but not great.

Aromatic, pretty, & tasty this is an excellent stout! Pours black w/ a tan head & solid lacing. The aroma has some nice chocolate notes as well as a hint of roasted malt. The flavor is quite similar. It has a lovely soft mouthfeel as advertised. The chocolate carries throughout. Just a very good example of the style overall!

12oz (Educators on Tap)- Nice white head with some lacing. Good dark color but can still see through it. Great vanilla and nutty notes and then roasty malt flavor. A bit cloying tasting.

Darkbrown, tall, short-lived head. Full body, flavorful, smooth, not silky, highly carbonated, lively mouthfeel despite low ABV, average length. Moderately bittersweet, just right acidity, predominantly bitter finish. Strong flavor of un-malted roasted grains, dark roast coffee. Enjoyable but not high on my list. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice drinkable beer. Not overwhelming in any way. Some roast flavor with a little chocolate at the end. Epic it is not.

Bottle from Colonial Spirits. Pours a solid dark brown with faint garnet at the edges and a frothy creamy tan head that persists. Roasted coffee milk on the nose with faint chocolate dark fruit and earth. Creamed coffee and light dried fruit wrapped in a creamy bubbly mouthfeel. Pretty damn tasty.

Bottle; pours nearly black with a thin brown head; aroma of chocolate; roast malt, and a hint of coffee; taste is sweet with chocolate, malt, and coffee; dry finish with just a hint of bitterness; simple, yet good

6oz sample at Liquor Barn. Aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Taste is a nice balance of sweet with some bitterness.

Aromas of roasted coffee with a touch of chocolate. Just a slight touch of spice - cinnamon or nutmeg. Color is dark brown, almost black. Sparse tan head. Taste is slightly sweet, moderately bitter. Body is a little things for a stout; carbonation average; average length finish. Overall a reasonably good beer, though just a bit thin and simple.

This is a fairly ordinary oatmeal stout, lacking in complexity, thin bodied, weak and the black malt ashiness is overdone. Great label design attracted me to this one, and I will say, for a sweet stout it is by no means cloyingly sweet. Roasty, burnt toasty, somewhat smooth and pretty easy drinking... but I think I’ll stick with Samuel Smith and others for this style.
