This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you’ll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

from Mondial de la Bière 2013, Mulhouse - murky black beer under a solid and long lasting creamy beige head; roasted aroma of chocolate and black coffee; medium-bodied, a light tartness balanced by some lactic notes; long aftertaste of mocha and pretty roasted

A blackish stout, minimal head. Faint roast, some malt in the nose. About average mouthfeel, which is below average for this style. Modest sourness. Drinkability is about average. A decent beer, but not best representation of style.

Nice stout...not quite as good as I’d hoped, but as advertised - subtle hints of coffee and chocolate, and a nice firm malt bill. Smooth if not big bodied.

hopscotch (11101) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 8, 2006
Bottle... Black ale with a mid-sized, frothy, well-tanned head. Good retention. Milk chocolate and caramel aroma. Well rounded, burnt, chocolaty notes in the flavor. Medium bitter with good balance. Medium to full-bodied with lively carbonation. Roasted, mildly burnt, lightly bitter finish. Lots of milk chocolate overall. Reminds me just a bit of Weyerbacher’s Old Heathen. Thanks go out to WBC for the bottle!
