This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you’ll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

Pours dark brown, opaque, with a tan head. Aroma is licorice and figs. Taste is raisins, oats, and roasted malt. Not real bitter at all. Has a medium mouth feel. Pretty decent stout.

Deep black pour with a thick creamy white head. The nose is really lovely. Nice oaty aroma with a deep rich chocolatey base. Has a really complex and lovely base. Toasted grain, milk chocolate, softly herbal. Unctuous and rich. Really delicious.

Bottle, pours a dark brown, red-hued body with a short-lived light brown head. Aroma of brown sugar, lightly toasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. Flavors of semi-sweet chocolate, roasted malts, and a hint of coffee. Bitter cocoa and coffee finish. Actually kind of bitter for a sweet stout, but it is enjoyable. Medium-bodied with a slightly creamy mouthfeel.

Appearance: pours black and lets no light though. Very good head that slowly disappears. Amora: dark chocolate and coffee. Taste: pretty sweet flavor with some chocolate and oats. Palate: medium body with good carbonation. Sweet up front that gives way to a slightly bitter finish. Overall: this beer is very good. Another good effort from New Holland. Will buy again.

Pour is a black with a slightly persistent tan head. Nose is faintly of chocolate and coffee. Taste is of light and sweet chocolate, nothing too flashy however quite good.

Pours nearly black with a thin brownish head. Nice aroma of coffee and chocolate. Heavy on the palate like a stout should be. Good flavor with notes of bitter chocolate and cereal (maybe oatmeal?). Bitter aftertaste. A good stout.

Very pleasing aroma of chocolate with some roasted coffee beans as well. Mouth feel is creamy and smooth like an oatmeal stout should be. Taste follows the smell with both milk and dark chocolates along with notes of roasted coffee before finishing with a surprising smoky slight bitterness. Not an elite stout but still solid.

jewedekind (450) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 2, 2005
Overall a very good stout, just overly hopped. Poured a big rocky brown head, that eventually thinned to a lacy rind. Not much nose, but a pronounced roasted aroma that led straight to the mouth. Big roasted flavor with chocolate and coffee. Very dry and heavily hopped (Chinook?). Bitterness rocks out the palate, and leaves me wanting some complexity.
