COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
C.A.F.E. Sour (Coffee Acquired From Ethiopia) brings a new twist to the already popular world of coffee beers. Made with beautiful Ethiopian Yrgicheffe provided by Plowshares Coffee Roasters in Hillburn, NY, it has an overall Ethiopian theme. Whole Grain Teff and Gesho Leaves were used; two ingredients indigenous to Ethiopia.

We wanted to push the boundaries of creativity. Since Teff is used in sourdough bread, we thought: why not make a sour beer?

The end product results in a truly unique coffee-inspired experience: 5.2% ABV, light in color and body, with an Earthy flavoring from the coffee that blends wonderfullly from the sour beer.

EBF 2017. This is a beer that’s committed to confusing you. What’s that? You’re not sure that a beer with a strong coffee flavor would work as a sour beer? You’re not right, and you’re not wrong. This is just bonkers, with a lot of flavor and a lot of ambition, and it works (mostly). Sure, it’s crazy and more unorthodox than a pork chop cooked in milk on Saturday, but sometimes that’s exactly what you’re looking for in a beer.

Draft at the brewery. Pours hazy amber with a bubbly white head. Tastes like salty cracker malt, yeast, roasted coffe, and dried fruits. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like strong roasted coffee, and sour fruits.

Tap at brewery. Pours hazy amber. Aroma is sour cherries, cold brew coffee, pale malt, and faint caramel. Flavor is sharp fruity acidity up front that drops off quickly leaving a dry pale malt base and some lingering coffee notes. Medium body.

Draft at the open door. Light yellow color with a head that fades. Taste is slightly tangy and tart but nothing memorable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Note: 7/10

EBF 2016. Pours hazy orange with low-medium beige head, good lacing. Aroma is of very nice chocolaty coffee, malt, marijuana. Taste is of very nice coffee, sourness, apricots. Palate: Medium body, medium carbonation. Overall: Nice.

tap at EBF 2016. cloudy golden pour with a small reviving off-white cap, nice lacing. slightly nutty maltiness, orange and lemon fruitiness, on-the-spot acidity; coffee with maple syrup pancakes, astringent coffee grains and herbs - perhaps acquired from gesho, minerals. moderate carbonation, light body, gently tart herbal-coffee finish. reminiscence of a coolled and reheated coffee - kinda works and doesn’t at the same time.

EBF ’16. Pours a hazy golden with a small white head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of pure coffee, freshly grounded. Taste is indeed sour with a good dose of coffee. It kind of works for me, I’m just not sure I would want to down a full bottle of that. Body is light to medium and carbonation moderate. Semi-refreshing. Pretty good wild (or what did Mosher call them? Radical?) Brew!
