An Englishman’s first love is his brown ale. However, in the summer he often fancies blondes instead! With this inspiration, we’ve created Newcastle Bombshell, an English style blonde ale. The combination of Cascade, Hellertau and Northdown hops balance this golden coloured ale’s light aroma and bitterness with toasted malt to ensure a silky smooth finish. After one sip of this brew, we’re sure you’ll agree she’s a real bombshell.

355mL. Pours clear golden. Medium, soapy white foam. Little to no lace. Nose is a tad vegetal, odd hefty parsnip, bizarre. Taste is watery, some lemon, candy corn, small citrus hops. Thin, somewhat soapy palate. Somewhat refreshing though. Not so bad.

12 oz bottle into a beer mug. A: Pours a clear golden color. About two fingers of white shaded head is formed, with acceptable retention and a nice texture. A lot of lacing is left on the glass, which honestly kind of surprised me. Can’t fault much here - it looks good in a mug. S: Let’s see...there’s a touch of crackery malt...and an ever-so-brief whiff of earthy hops. This is bland. REALLY bland. T/M: Taste (and mouthfeel, really) are a bit more expressive: crackery malt at the forefront, followed by notes of black pepper and buttered popcorn. The general flavors aren’t entirely desirable to me. Still, the clean, crisp finish and lighter body helps it go down quite easily. O: Sorry, I prefer brunettes and redheads.

Golden pour into pint glass. Nose hints at some honey and hops. A good session beer that is lighter without tasting too watery. Some honey and cereal in the flavor. The carbonation is lively and finishes well with some citrus bitterness. I was hesitant to buy this one but am glad I took a chance. I would buy again for sure.

I don’t know why I keep trying all these other Newcastle beers since none of them are anywhere near as good as the nut brown. It’s a beer but that’s about it.

This is a bombshell alright. Light Amber brew with little head that died quick. Aroma is slight caramel with a musty old character to it. Taste is bland and off with mostly a toast flavor, as in bread in a toaster. Just needs some butter flavor and it’s breakfast.

bottle - Pours clear gold with minimal head. It smells mainly of grainy malt. The flavor has mild, bland hops bitterness and sweet cereal malt. I suppose it’s refreshing but it’s watery and thoroughly mediocre.

Bought this based off my love of Newcastle Brown Ale, but this is a pure disappointment. The taste is awful and leaves a bad aftertaste. Try as I might to finish off the case, I may end up pouring them out.

Slightly sour, cereal taste to this beer. Aroma and taste of wet paper. Chalky, watery Mouthfeel. Much better golden blondes to be found in the UK

Pours a clear yellow with a white head. Nose is citrus hops. Palate is medium body with citrus and a hop mild bitterness. Lingering aftertaste.

330ml bottle picked up at Nina’s Mini Market. Shared with Scottish friends. Clear golden body. Low white head. Fresh grassy hops to the nose. Smooth malt-fruity taste. Discreet fruit bitter ending. Medium to thin bodied. Average for the style (Edinburgh 09.08.2013).
