Newcastle Brown Ale was first brewed in 1927 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, by Jim Porter after three years of development. Production moved from Newcastle to Gateshead at the end of 2004 and to Tadcaster on closure of the Dunston brewery in 2010.

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 5/5   TASTE 9/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 19/20

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear light brown with an off-white head. The aroma is full of English ale esters, very close to Belgian, but just a bit different. This is the first cousin to De Koninck from Antwerp. The flavor is very clean with the malt and esters dominating over a very subdued bitterness. The bottle suggests that you drink the beer cool, but the flavors really come out when you let the beer warm up a bit. Note also the lower level of carbonation with no CO2 bite. All in all, a very subtle English ale with a lot to offer, but you need a pretty refined beer palate to appreciate all the nuances. The brewery claims that it is no longer using caramel color, but rather roasted malts to produce this brown ale. That is also very positive as the more natural, the better.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2017 Can. Clear amber color. Taste is caramel but somehow off. Metallic bitterness and relatively flat.

Helder roodbruin bier met wit schuim. Geur: redelijk gesloten, mout, ietwat kandij. Smaak: vrij neutraal, wat kandij. Licht tot medium body. Medium koolzuurprikkel. Geen afdronk. Een doordrinker.

Skunk? Wtf. Watery and boring for a brown. I'd have to check the price. Better be cheap

Aromat karmel, słód, miód, chleb. Barwa bursztynowa, ładna czapa piany. W smaku karmel, chleb, zimna kawa z cukrem, słód, niesamowicie wodniste. Goryczki brak, wysycenie średnie. Nie jestem fanem.

eunck (225) - Msida, MALTA - SEP 12, 2017
Brownish amber beer with quickly disappearing off white head. Aroma of caramel malts, a touch of honey and also some spices. Low carbonation and not too much body. Pleasant to drink but not out of the ordinary.
