"The Hoppings" - reputedly the largest traveling fair in Europe, takes place on Newcastle Town Moor every June. Several origins has been suggested for the name. It may derive from the word "Hoppen" an Old English word for dancing or funfair. It has even been suggested that people "hopped" about itching due to fleas caught from animals that travelled with the fair. However, wed like to think it may relate to the quality hops used in the brewing of our famous beer. Enjoy Newcastle Summer Ale at the fair or wherever you are this summer.

Interesting beer. I had this while on vacation in Cocoa Cocoa Beach FL. I got it on tap and is was x10 better then regular NewCastle. Summerish, Smooth, Gorgios beer with a great sweet aroma.

Bottle before the Zips game. Light citrus and pale malt nose. Taste is surprisingly bitter for something so weak with light cardboard and slight pepper overtones. Medium, bland body. Disappoints, even on a hot day, which is hard. As for the hype, the overemphasis on hops in the marketing does this beer a disservice, because there arent really any here.

Golden pour, white head. Off-citrus scent, but not much flavor to back this one up. Pretty smooth palate, with mild hop content.

"Beer of the month" tap selection at Red Door in Seattle. I liked it. Amber. Thin white head and lacing. Fruity melon aroma. I found a contrasting hop note that cut through the floral flavour. A tasty Golden Ale.

Tap at Mackeys in DC. Poured a clear, light amber with spotty white lace remaining from a thin head to begin with. Caramel, Worcestershire sauce, slight bitter hops in nose. Taste is soapy, laundry detergent, Worcestershire sauce. Drain pour status if served in my home.

Pale yellow color with a foamy white head. Mild grainy aroma with a hint of hops. Slightly over hopped and bitter taste with high carbonation.

Doesnt smell the best, a bit of butter perhaps. Looks nice. This is pretty easy to drink, with a good flavor. Nothing aggressive here, but this beer is one that could certainly convince people to branch out a little more, as its from newcastle and is quite respectable.

Bottle. Poured pale clear yellow with thin lasting head. Little lacing. Pleasant faint aroma, summer grass. Light body, light malt flavour, a bit of breadiness. Rather thin finish. This is not a bad ale, bur merely ordinary.
