"The Hoppings" - reputedly the largest traveling fair in Europe, takes place on Newcastle Town Moor every June. Several origins has been suggested for the name. It may derive from the word "Hoppen" an Old English word for dancing or funfair. It has even been suggested that people "hopped" about itching due to fleas caught from animals that travelled with the fair. However, we’d like to think it may relate to the quality hops used in the brewing of our famous beer. Enjoy Newcastle Summer Ale at the fair or wherever you are this summer.

Bottle at home ... Golden amber ... small white head ... soft mellow toffee hop ... little grassy ... ligth fizz ... soft grassyness ... not laggery but hints of it... soft fruit...light lemon finish

Oakes (19426) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 20, 2012
Vaguely amber colour, but it isn’t all that attractive. Bleached white head. Aroma us mostly overripe fruit. Taste is like neutered newkie, mineral water, and more overripe fruit. Not a fan, kind of a poor brand extension.

brokensail (16689) - Dublin, California, USA - JUL 20, 2010
A: The pour is an innocent enough looking golden color with a mild, white head. Quite summery, indeed... S: Nothing says summer quite like the smell of...butter? Tons o’ diacetyl with a bit of sweet orange and sweet malt. T: Though I did not believe it to be possible, the flavor displays even more butter than the nose! Buttered popcorn with a side of butter and a mild sweetness as well. M: Light and somewhat spritzy. Perhaps a touch watery. D: This was bordering on awful. I’ll simply classify it as really bad and suggest staying away from this beer.
