brown/reddish pour with little head - aromas of bread, hay, tobacco and molasses - thin on the palate and tastes as if it had a rough journey to my mouth (as in improper storage somewhere along the line, at least this one comes in a brown bottle!) but there are notes of brown sugar and tobacco again. arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - NOV 28, 2012
Pour on tap at Old Chicago, dark reddish brown pour with white head, aroma brought notes of slight grain, caramel, toffee, hints of earth, slight cardboard like notes in there as well, something unappealing. Taste is more wet grain, husky cardboard, some slight roasted nuts, caramel, finishing earthy and slightly dirty. Not my favorite. Maverick34 (3315) - New York, USA - NOV 28, 2012
Bottled. Reddish. Not much aroma. Some fruity berrys and malts and thin feel. Not much finish. Insubstantial bshep (155) - - NOV 26, 2012
Pours like a red ale. Smooth. Taste is great. It does lack in a good aroma, but a great brew for sitting around and drinking with friends and family. vikingguy (1106) - Carver, Minnesota, USA - NOV 24, 2012
Crystal clear red and small foamy head. Sweet malt and grassy hops on the nose. Taste is a bit bisquity, english malt, brown sugar, grassy hops. Rather thin body. Drinkable, decent but nothing memorable.

Comes out of the tap a nice clear golden amber. Head was a bit thin, but that must be an artifact of the pour. Aroma is malty, hoppy and dusty, rather pleasing. Flavor is somewhat bitter, malty and a little fruity with a hoppy undertone, bitter but not too much so. Firm texture is smooth and has plenty of fizz. Overall, one to make you howl! chrishaas85 (2) - - NOV 18, 2012 does not count
Aroma of wine? Mouth feel is good. Tastes of wine, caramel, very mild hop finish. Got 3 24 packs for $5.99 each and am still unsure of my purchase. Not recommended. mikemccarthy (91) - Huntington, West Virginia, USA - NOV 13, 2012
Pours a transparent copper with hints of red and a thin, white head that fades. Fruity, almost wine-like nose. Creamy but thin and flat mouthfeel. Taste is subtly straw-like, with not much flavor. Meh.

As a fan of belgium and german beers and certainly a fan of irish/english beers, this blood ale is excellent. Great aroma, sweet scent. Appearance is dark red, very appealing and fitting to the name. Taste is great, I love the new castle ale too. Fruity, small bite, great finish. Carbonation is not flat, but just right for me. Suttree (6484) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - NOV 12, 2012
UPDATED: NOV 14, 2012 Looks, smells and tastes like every other bottled British Bitter I’ve ever had. No thank you...
