COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2012 Horrible aroma of cheap plastic like the smell of one of those kiddie pools right out of the box. Decent clear red with a small head that quickly disappears. I canít believe that Newcastle would go to the trouble of actually brewing this and then packaging it for sale. They need to take these brown bottles and switch brews with their brown ale that comes in the clear bottle. Bought a case of thise a Costco 2 weeks ago and I still have 23 bottles. I donít even think I can use this for cooking. At least my compost bin will be happy.

Smells liek burger meat. The flavor is about at light and sweet as a beer gets. I donít know what they do to get it like that but it is like soda.

Blood red pour with little of no head, no rye taste just a very bitter aftertaste This beer is just hype!

Bottle. Pours clear red with an aggressive head, decent lacing, overall this is a good looking brew. The aroma is not great.. some biscuit, bread, but lacking a real distinguishing character. The taste is a little on the sweet side with a bit of the rye malt in the finish, This is reasonable considering itís from Newcastle and should be easily available anywhere; however, many ESBs are better.

Poured into a tasting glass Reddish color with minimal head that quickly left. Decent beer that tasted very similar to Newcastle but with some other slight flavors added in. Fruity/rye smell and taste.

Reddish-brown, highly carbonated, but diffuse head. Nutty nose, moving toward hazelnut, and ensconced by berry fruit. Berry and nut flavors abound in the body. Body is thinnish.

(12oz bottle, courtesy of blutt59) Pours a clear amber body with a small white head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, and toasted grain. Flavor of nuts, toasted grain, bread, and earthiness with a dry finish.

Low carbonation beer with a great strawberry blonde color caramel accents with a hoppy mouth make this a beer worth enjoying

Poured a fairly light clear brown color with an off white head. Aroma is pretty nutty with some caramel and rye. Taste is pretty smooth with a good amount of rye flavor and caramel. Kinda dry with some balance issues I think. Some biscuit and earthy flavors in the finish with a touch of hops. Overall not bad.

Aroma is fruit and malts. The flavor is similar to the aroma with notes of apples and a mild tartness in the finish.
