"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

12 oz. Darkish copper-brown with a lasting quarter inch of cream. Aroma of dark toasted bread, pecan, and touches of orange toffee and cocoa powder. Tastes of lightly tart berries, caramel apple, earthy cocoa powder, toasted rye, orange, and some woody pith. Medium body is sweetish on the front, but is well balanced by a pleasant astringency from the roasted malt, the peppery rye, and earthy hops. Interesting industrial brew; I like it much better than the regular brown.

bottled, orange amber color with off white foam, aroma is nutty caramel, flavor of chocolate, caramel, nice bitter finish

"Blood Red" and the Werewolf name are its only claims to fame! Strange grainy taste and thin body. Ugh!

Not a big fan. Odd taste, like charcoal. Don't really get how this qualifies as a fall seasonal. More like a winter beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at TPSA. Pours a weird gold-brown with no head to speak of; it’s just weird looking. Nose is light hops and not much else. There is some hops bitterness on the tongue, but for an ESB this has almost no body to it; it’s thin as Kate Moss. Finish is clean, at least. Insubstantial and forgettable.

Sold as "blood red" the actual poor is more of a dirt brown. Watery taste mixed with burnt coffee. Would not recommend.

Bottle. Pours clear copper color with a quick little off white head. Aroma is dirty water and dusty malt and not much else. Taste is more of the above with a slight bitterness in the finish and a raunchy aftertaste. Palate is watery and finishes dusty dry. It’s okay, but no reason to purchase again.

Patrickctenchi (6731) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - AUG 2, 2012
Pours nearly clear, red/amber/copper with tan head. Scent is slight chocolate over earth over burnt campfire coffee..... Taste is old metal, malt, slightly bitter woody nuts.. This is an odd duck in taste and aroma both. It’s rather unique. Not bad....different.

PorterPounder (8284) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUL 29, 2012
Tallahassee, Fl - Circle K - Bradfordville - 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice dark copper with a thin off-white head. Aroma of unsweetened cocoa and potting soil. Flavor is similar to the aroma with the earthy potting solid flavor dominating with some unsweetened cocoa and a bit of nuttiness in the back end. Mouthfeel has a nice slickness to it. Not bad.
