"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

The aroma is pretty darn nice with tasted malt, toffee, mixed grains, and grassy hops. The appearance is amber with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma but papery and bland. The palate is average. Overall itís drinkable but not special.

Bottle. Clear amber pour with a sudsy white head and a slight bit of lacing along the glass. Aroma has some roasted malt notes along with burnt sugar. Flavor is alright but not as exciting or bitter as I hoped.

Deep amber pour. Smells of raisins and caramel. Tastes of rusty iron , sour and bitter at once. Not a Newcastle hater by any means and wanted to like this but falls flat ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amber pour with a cream head. Nose is caramel, malts, and sweet. Easy palate, fruity, caramel, not that interesting.

SphinxTX (2875) - Mata Gorda, Texas, USA - JUL 16, 2012
Bottle. Pours reddish brown with beige head. Aroma of nut, hints of caramel, light fruity esters, perhaps a hint of vegetable. Flavor, wow, I donít know what the hell is going on here but it isnít very pleasant, some astringent, vegetable, burnt socks, ect....Mouthfeel is light with high carbonation. Overall, certainly do not recommend!

This is a Halloween prank right? Someone filled the bottles with spoiled liquid brew found in the bottom of trash containers in mid-summer, right? Because you canít convince me that the sickening caramel, horrid berry that clashes against the putrid bitterness was actually a beer designed and brewed by someone who said "yes, quite right old chap, letís bottle this." Unless of coures that person is a psychopath, or a werewolf. I forced my way through 3/4 a bottle and actually threw up in my mouth. Iím not making that up.

355ml bottle. Pours a deep amber, with an off-white head. Malty, roasted aroma, caramel, hops, toffee, chocolate. Dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Malty taste, quite roasted, caramel, hops, dried fruits, earth, ashes, chocolate, faint smoke? (2012-06-12)

pnesbit (96) - Marietta, South Carolina, USA - JUN 9, 2012
Bottle pour deep amber with a off white medium head into a glass. Not much noise but a slight malt sweetness. Medium body very carbonated. Taste of sweet malt with a slight blueberry with a bitter finish that does not linger. Over all not an outstanding beer. The bitter sneaks up and unbalanced the smoothness of the rest of the beer.

Bottle to glass. The aroma has a sweetness to it as well as breadth and caramel malts. Deep amber pour with medium head. Tinge of bitterness on the end. Pretty mediocre overall
