COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Formidable Beast". What better way to toast the fall than to have a bottle of this formidable, dual character brew. At first smooth with mellow overtones of sweet berry fruit, a bite of bitterness suddenly cuts through, long, deep and lingering. Brewed with Rye Malt, it is naturally "blood red" in colour. Unlike the mythical wolf-like creature said to roam the bleak moorland surrounding Newcastle, this is real, so consider yourself warned!

12oz bottle. pours a clear bronze with a medium sized, off-white head. nose is really similar to regular newcastle...somewhat bland with hints of caramel malt and balloon rubber. the flavor is slightly more bitter than standard newcastle from the use of rye, but still has that familiar light caramel note and root beer. maybe the tiniest pinch of licorice. palate=easy to throw a few or 6 back. all in all...not really much different than oldcastle.
