As a fan of belgium and german beers and certainly a fan of irish/english beers, this blood ale is excellent. Great aroma, sweet scent. Appearance is dark red, very appealing and fitting to the name. Taste is great, I love the new castle ale too. Fruity, small bite, great finish. Carbonation is not flat, but just right for me. bshep (157) - - NOV 26, 2012
Pours like a red ale. Smooth. Taste is great. It does lack in a good aroma, but a great brew for sitting around and drinking with friends and family. mikedR (1561) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - OCT 9, 2013
From the label description I was expecting an American-style red ale, but this is definitely an ESB. Not a bad one, and surprisingly flavorful given the low ABV, but I can't say that the rye malt reveals itself other than in color, nor do I pick up any of the fruit notes the label intimates. Overall, though, it's nice. B-

Full-bodied, dark, heavy - tasty but a bit overwhelming. I would definitely have it again but it’s tough to have more than a few. justin_mi (5) - California, USA - OCT 25, 2013 does not count
Bottle. White head that lingers for a bit. Beautiful brow-red color. Balanced taste. Not too bitter, not too sweet. A great fall beer without the pumpkin!

Dark color, brown chocolate head. Smoke, coffee, soft. Some caramell? Very tasty

Very nice bitter with stylish burnt tones from the malt and a long bitter aftertaste.
