Cask at The Cleveland Arms. Pours a clear, light brown-gold with a fading, foam head. Doughy malts on the nose with some herbal tea hops. Pleasant flavor, medium sweet, good bread notes that aren’t too doughy, mild caramel and some earthy, leafy bitters. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. The finish is slightly dry and the malts harden up a bit. There are subtle notes of citric, astringent hops and demerera sugar. We’ve got an alright beer here. Cask, handpump at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury, Bucks, 31.12.10 Pours amber with a filmy white head excellent clarity and look to this beer. Bitter with some sweetness, some spice initially but the bitterness returns and takes over proceedings. I thought that this was great to start with, but I began to tire of it about half way through. Cask-conditioned at the Portcullis, Bristol 11/12/08. Reddish-amber with a slight, off-white head. Sweet, red fruit and caramel aroma. Flavour was much the same, with some hints of spice and a short bitter finish. Ok.
