Nice balanced malty marzen. Fun big beer for the spring. I wish these cyclone beers hung around a little longer. jkwalking05 (4743) - Arlington, Texas, USA - MAR 15, 2013
Tasted in 2010 (backlog). Gold in color with a small white head. Aroma is of grain and mash water. Taste is of malt and caramel. crossovert (13411) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 20, 2011
This one is a limited release and the only Maerzen I;ve had this season that fits that bill. It is 7.5% alc and certainty higher significantly than average.
This is the only fresh Maerzen I have had this season with noticeable murkiness and sediment. The body of this beer looks like honey with wisps of yeast and other sediment swirled throughout going from dark at the top to light on the bottom, a stunning looking beer. The head is 3 fingers tall and slightly off-white, and as it recedes it leaves some major lacing behind.
Alcohol is noticeable on in the nose, the scent is a sweet malt, with a smattering of earthy hops. Also some nutty roastiness in this one. A good smelling Maerzen right here.
The flavor is not unlike Ayinger’s Oktoberfest, but with a noticeable kick of alcohol that produces some extra bitterness. It is sweet but not as sweet as I was expecting.
Overall it is a good Maerzen, nothing too special, but high abv if you are looking for that. For this style the drinkability is understandably rather low.

This is a heavy-bodied light amber brew with strong raisin-spice-alcohol aromas. Flavor is on the complex side, sweet with some bread, some fruit, prune. Interesting. Drinkable, but I am not sure it’s very enjoyable. This is more bock-like than any marzen I’ve tried. Alphadelic (2249) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 8, 2010
The nose is blunt malt. To the point and I like it. In the mouth it contains heavy caramel sweetness with an undercurrent of fragrant, perfumed hops. It is puffy and yet has a satisfying grate of carbonation accross the tongue. The hop character is slightly metallic and soapy in the finish which is unfortunate.

(12oz bottle, courtesy of Cavie) Pours a clear yellow body with a small white head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, and honey. Flavor of cereal, caramel malt, toasted grain, and nuts. travita (5006) - Dallas, Texas, USA - FEB 22, 2010
Bottle thanks to Cavie. The smell is cereral, wheat, grains, sweet, caramel, and plastic. The taste is cereal, grains, nuts, and ok. The look is golden in color with a white head. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 19, 2010
Bottled. Poured translucent medium amber with a short-lived cap of white head. The aroma struck me as a cross between Euro strong lager and marzen, with alcohol-fueled corn and honey notes driving leafy and grassy character.. warm and sweet with a somewhat oaky & metallic twinge around the nose.. interesting presentation, but it didn’t really draw me in. The flavor found honey and toasty caramel at the core, with leafy bitterness and peppery spicage around.. hot on the finish, especially at 7.8%. Medium-bodied with low-moderate carbonation on the palate.. decent feel and flow.. I feel like I couldn’t scored it a bit higher, but it just didn’t happen. angrypirate06 (1388) - Texas, USA - FEB 3, 2010
