Very dark but clear, ruby colour, weak head. Smell is caramel and cumin, bit of liquorice and bubblegum. Hint of mint and spruce. Lightly alcoholic, warming. Taste is watery bit full and sweet to start with, with a lightly astringent finish. Light bitterness.

bottle. Cloudy brown with a fluffy head. Chocolatey in the start, robust malty flavours with roasted malts, honey and nuts.Bitter hoppy finish balances it off.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a nice looking dark brown close to black color with a nice looking finger and a half’s worth of white to off white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Some messy lacing runs about. The aroma takes on some sweet brown sugar, cocoa powder, thyme herbal qualities, and some breadiness. Red delicious apples. The flavor yields to the sweet breadiness and brown sugar to cocoa powder portion. Belgian yeastiness flows freely all around. A nice Belgian yeasty sweet aftertaste with a semi-slick sort of Belgian sugary finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sipping quality about it. Alcohol is there but isn’t distracting. Carbonation feels fine. Belgian back-of-the-throat gripping underlying flows freely over my tongue. Overall, good Belgian Strong Dark ale exacting upon a nice chilly winter’s evening. Glad I have another bottle of this.

UPDATED: DEC 28, 2016 750ml bottle from 2015. Pours a murky brown colour, nice bubbly beige head. Brown sugar aroma, caramel toffee, booze, plum, fig. Strong liqueur up front before brown sugar sweetness, malts and dark fruits and some spice kicks in. Pretty complex, lots to unpack, and it holds together well. Perhaps a bit sweet for my liking but it has a fizzy texture and hop presence that carries it over the palate nicely.

Bottle shared in Mierlo. Pours a very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma hits you with a sugary boozy dark fruit. Lots of banana, sweet malts, caramel, toffee. It hides the booze behind the sweetness but lacks a bit. Very sweet, light bitter. Medium body, medium carbonation.

Bottle for Christmas. Quite nice actually. Artificial banana. Sweet but well balanced. Doesn’t taste like 10%

Dark brown with red tones, yellowbrown long lasting foam. Aroma is dark fruits, toffee, some brown sugar, vanilla, alcohol pushing through. Taste is sweet, though some bitterness can be sensed and the finish is dominated of the dried dark fruits. A hint of roasted tones and some chocolate adds to the complexity among others. Changes character with temperature and should be an interesting beer to let to be matured in the cellar. I like this but not as over the top as I had expected from this because I was so overwhelmed by the Houblon that is a top notch world class beer.
