---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bierdimpfe (640) - Quebec, CANADA - NOV 1, 2016
Deep cloudy brown purple color, with a copper hue, and dense glass clinging activity. Thick creamy and frothy light brown 3-4 finger mountain head, lasting around 20-30 minutes, with gorgeous legs. Flavors of ginger, toffee, apples, dark berries, plums, sweet dark malts, walnuts, molasses, Belgian yeast, and herbal spices. Heavily sugary with dark fruits, slightly syrupy but a little vinous, still quite soft and complex with lots of sharpness. Slick medium body with crispy carbonation. Strong finish but superbly well balanced with hidden alcohol, thick pleasant ester sugary molassy feel, and a superb mix of spices. Truly a perfect warming winter beer, or for colder times. Still very fresh and quite rich, with appetizer qualities. Delicious flavors, perfect intensity, although the smell is highly alcoholic. Overall superb quality craft.

Pours clear, deep, reddish brown color with a long lasting off-white head. The aroma is very spicy and yeasty with hints of herbs, yeast, malts. It has a medium to full body with moderate carbonation and a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Good flavour, with spices and yeast.

I’ve enjoyed small bottles of this guy as a special treat to myself every now and then this winter. While it isn’t my favourite Chouffe, it is a really beautiful squad player of a talented Belgian team. A lot of coffee and chocolate malty flavours with an undertone of winter spice, this beer doesn’t blow you away with excitement, but delivers what it claims to with hospitably hearty Belgian execution.

33cl bottle at Het Leen Cafetaria in Eeklo (18 III 2016). Darkred brown to black brew with minimal collar. Hugely Belgian yeasted nose, with lots of grains too - a flavour bomb! Coffee or even Belgian andive bitterness in the tastefeel, lots of Liegeois syrup: Really not my cup of tea. Because of the overpowered, unappealing yeasts and malts. The body is heavy, yet not that sweet - despite the liquorice backbone. Mèh.

Punertavanruskea olut höttöisellä, melko runsaalla vaahdolla, joka kuitenkin katoaa nopeasti kokonaan. Tuoksu maltaisen makea, mutta todella mieto. Ehkä aavistus hedelmää siitä on havaittavissa. Maku maltaisen makea, alkoholi on hieman esillä. Pitkä, makea alkoholin lämmittämä ja mausteinen jälkimaku. Keskitäyteläisen ja täyteläisen välinen suutuntuma, kevyesti hiilihappoinen.

Night_Cap (119) - Southern Highlands, AUSTRALIA - AUG 10, 2016
Bottle 330ml. Served at cellar temperature. Pours a hazy ruby brown. Head is large, foamy, off white and lasts well in the glass. Aroma is of spiced fruit loaf, ginger snaps, Belgian candy sugar, cinnamon, pepper, herbs, prunes, dark plums and rum and raisin chocolate (light). Flavour is smooth with a light bitterness, raisin loaf, vinous port, overripe dark plums, Belgian candy sugar, leaves/herbs, cinnamon and ginger snaps and a peppery finish. Full bodied with medium carbonation, an oily texture and a good length finish. A very tasty and well balanced Christmas ale!

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2016 Bottle from head of steam Leeds. Poured into chouffe tulip. Murky brown with tan white head and chocolate looking speckles scattered across. Aroma of sweet malt, coffee, toffee and dried fruit. Taste is heavily dominated by sweet malt. Subsiding notes of raisin and plum abashed by the warm boozyness. Finish is throat meltingly warm. A real winter warmer.
