Bottle, 0.33l. Hazy, dark ruby/brown pour with one finger creamy beige head. Below average retention, leaving thin layer throughout the whole drink. Decent lacing on the glass. Typical nose for the style, yeasty, floral. Touch of caramel. Medium body, somewhat highly carbonated. Creamy texture. Boozy bittersweet taste and mouthfeel. High presence of alcohol in the aroma. Boozy. Caramel, toffee. Floral and herbal. Pretty good, but overshadowed by strong alcohol presence. Dry finish with burning sensation on the tongue. Overall, not bad. Strong alcohol presence ruins it a bit.

Wintertime is beertime, and this brew is another testimony to that statement. Yes it is pretty sweet and syrupy, but you just cant ignore it. Hides it alcohol pretty well up until the aftertaste.

Very dark but clear, ruby colour, weak head. Smell is caramel and cumin, bit of liquorice and bubblegum. Hint of mint and spruce. Lightly alcoholic, warming. Taste is watery bit full and sweet to start with, with a lightly astringent finish. Light bitterness.

bottle. Cloudy brown with a fluffy head. Chocolatey in the start, robust malty flavours with roasted malts, honey and nuts.Bitter hoppy finish balances it off.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a nice looking dark brown close to black color with a nice looking finger and a half’s worth of white to off white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Some messy lacing runs about. The aroma takes on some sweet brown sugar, cocoa powder, thyme herbal qualities, and some breadiness. Red delicious apples. The flavor yields to the sweet breadiness and brown sugar to cocoa powder portion. Belgian yeastiness flows freely all around. A nice Belgian yeasty sweet aftertaste with a semi-slick sort of Belgian sugary finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sipping quality about it. Alcohol is there but isn’t distracting. Carbonation feels fine. Belgian back-of-the-throat gripping underlying flows freely over my tongue. Overall, good Belgian Strong Dark ale exacting upon a nice chilly winter’s evening. Glad I have another bottle of this.
