COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Nickel Brook Bolshevik Bastard Russian Imperial Stout is scientific creation brewed especially for those of you who arent afraid of big and bold flavours! Made with a blend of Roasted, Chocolate and Crystal malts; this Imperial Stout exhibits many deep flavours of rich, roasty chocolate and dark fruit. To counterbalance the sweetness, the Bolshevik Bastard is aggressively hopped to give rise to this remarkably smooth Russian Imperial Stout. Na zdorovye!

This beer is one of my absolute favourite. So nice and dark with great notes of chocolate, coffee, and a little bit of dried fruit. So amazing.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2016 Almost jet black, with an extremely thin, slightly off-white head. The aromas are burnt malts, an alcohol sting, coffee, and dark fruits like raisins. Tastes feature dark chocolate, malts, booziness, black coffee. I can truly say this is one of my favourite Nickel Brook beers, and very good bang for the buck. A superior brew at every day prices.

Cask at Vankleek Hills/Beaus Oktoberfest. Orangeish opaque brown with a short lasting beige head. Smell is roast and chocolate. Taste is roast, chocolate, vanilla, alcohol. Lots of dark chocolate and citrus bitterness in the finish. Full bodied, sticky, velvety mouthfeel. Definitely the highlight of my tasting session!

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 1/18/2016. Pours pitch black color with a 2-3 finger dense and rocky tan head with incredible retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Incredible appearance! Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, molasses, smoke, char, light licorice/dark fruit, herbal, wood, floral, pine, and roast/smokey earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy/piney hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, molasses, smoke, char, light licorice/dark fruit, herbal, wood, floral, pine, and roast/smokey earthiness. Good amount of roast/char and herbal/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, molasses, smoke, char, light licorice/dark fruit, herbal, wood, floral, pine, and roast/smokey earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy/piney hop flavors; with a great bitter/sweet roast malt/hop balance and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from roast/hop bitterness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming lingering after the finish. Overall this is an incredible Russian imperial stout! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy/piney hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2016 Bottle: black beer with tan head. Dark fruits, espresso, and a bold malty aroma. Rich, complex flavours of roasted malts, dates, cocoa, and yeast. Oily mouthfeel with a long sweet bitterness in the end. Excellent Imperial stout.

Pint on Tap at Imbibe in Kitchener. I was warned when ordering that it is 8.5%. Very dark brown, almost black with decent beige head. Roasted malts and mocha and a little sweetness that belies the strong alcohol content on the nose. Lighter feel than I expected in the mouth, but still very good. taste is the same sweet roasted malt and slightly bitter coffee that showed up in the nose. Overall, an excellent stout.

Bottle bought at the Nickelbrook brewery in Burlington/Canada. Overall a fantastic mind blowing imperial stout that has it all! Sweet vanilla and chocolate aroma. Pitch black color, no light penetration. Beige creamy head that keeps a pretty thick layer. Taste is phenomenal! Roasted malt, espresso, sweet vanilla, bitter chocolate plus some minor dark fruits. Alcohol very very mild and warming. A mind blowing brew!

12oz into goblet at 65 and 45. Aroma of each is roasted grain, some cherry from the warmer one. Thin-bubbled head typical of an RIS, large head on the wamer one, small on the cooler. Head is rich brown in color, good lacing. Huge difference between the two. The 65 one is probably the best RIS Ive had; huge cherry and plum flavors, roasty, feels like it lights the fireplace right beside you. Full mouthfeel, just a wonderful beer. At 45 its empty and muted, the fruitiness is there on the aftertaste, but its not up front. Immediately took the other two out of the fridge. Rating reflects the 65 bottle.
