Bottle, 2016 release. Opaque, deep brown pour with a dense tan head. Aroma is tart, funky and spicy, very complex with citrus peel, caramel, fruitcake spices and more. Don’t get much bourbon barrel character though. Taste is quite similar, a slightly tart and funky note up front with hints of citrus, backed by spices and dried fruits, no detectable barrel aging. Complex and interesting, but I think it works. Curious to see how this does with age.

Keg at Brother’s Beer Bistro, Ottawa. Cloudy mahogany colour, mid sized creamy head. Interesting aroma where bourbon and oak tartness meets caramel and herbal spice. Rather tart with medium body and soft mouthfeel. Oak is dominant. Notes of red berries, herbs and toffee. Mid bitter finish. Tasty and interesting.

Murky reddish brown body some white head some lacing. Funky aroma, vinegar, oak, malts. Taste is semi-sour, don’t get any bourbon from this.

A reddish copper ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light plums, light bourbon barrel notes, vanilla and cinnamon, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light bourbon barrel notes, woody notes, light scotch character, light curacao and coriander, alcohol warmth, very nice. On tap at Brother’s Beer Bistro.

Pours a reddish brown. Lots of funk and sour notes. Bourbon too. Don’t get the bag reviews on this. I thought it was quite good despite the lack of spice. Tastes very much like a barrel aged Flemish sour ale. Very nice

This ale poured a slightly cloudy, deep amber colour with a big, foamy, tan coloured head. Minimal lacing. Scents include dill, ripe fruit, brown sugar and potato chips. First swig was really strongly flavoured. Flavours of tea, alcohol, bourbon... Slightly bitter finish with oak wood and a little smoke lingering. Very complex but overall hard to drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml bottle; label reads "2016 Reserve Ale - 10% abv". Quiet pour with moderate carbonation and a red amber colour, short tan head, and sparse lace. The aroma is a blend of bourbon, mixed spices, dark dried fruit, burnt sugar, and oak. The beer has a mild brett start with an undertone of spices expanding into the middle. Long finish with notes of dried fruit and oak. There’s a subtle warm alcohol glow at the very end. Assertive and complex.

Pours murky brown with a beige head. Bourbon with dark fruit and carmel aroma. It has a sour and sweet taste, with a full body. Nicely done.

(2016 Edition, 10%ABV) 750ml bottle pours a golden amber color with a finger of white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits, caramel, some spice with herbal notes. Taste is a fruity and caramel malty sweetness with a herbal hop bitterness and a blend of spices in the finish. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent brew for the style, but just didn’t seem to work for me.
