We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

On tap. Jet black. Tan head. Aroma really carries the bourbon. Similar to the bolshevik bastard, dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruit. Smooth and rich. Complex and nicely balanced. Slight sweetness with a bourbon bitter finish. Really enjoyed.

750 ml bottle from lcbo - dated 2016 and labeled 14.5% abv. Quiet pour with subdued carbonation and an elaborate aroma consisting of bourbon, roasted barley, dark dried fruit, and dark chocolate. The beer is dark and opaque with an austere sepia head and sparse lace typical for such a high abv. The taste starts with a burnt sugar sweetness with notes of bourbon and roasted barley blending into the middle. The finish is long having notes of dark dried fruit ( dates, raisins, figs) and dark chocolate, and a warm, welcome, and lingering alcohol glow. To hell with my liver; must get more to cellar. Its a perfect winter sipper!

Mossy-tan head, reasonnably stable over jet-black beer. Rich, warm Bourbon nose, alcoholic, fusels, musk, dark plums. Bitter-roasted flavour, grainy, oatmeal, going over in a sweetish alcohol/fusels jumble. Every new sip initially seriously bitter. Serious alcoholheat, really full-bodied, viscous. Good carbonation too. Long lasting vanilla-Bourbonflavour. Rather boozy. In the end, classical Bourbon aged Imperial stout. Seems to work almost anytime. From the label: How to properly open a wax sealed bottle Much easier , cleaner, logical method: NO WAX!!

Tasting at Alexs (thx, Brian!). 750ml bottle. Vintage 2015. Pours an opaque almost black with a brown head. Aroma is slightly boozy, fruity, bourbon, roasted malt, barrel notes. Taste is pretty the same with bourbon, chocolate and leather notes. Good stuff.

(2016 Edition, 14.5%ABV) 750ml bottle pours black in color with a rich light brown head that retains well and leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted grains, chocolate and dark fruits with an alcohol presence. Taste is a dark fruit and chocolate malty sweetness with a roasted grain bitterness and alcohol burn in the finish. Full bodied with mild carbonation. Aside from the alcohol burn, there is a nice mouth feel to this brew. Recommended.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a black color with an average frothy tan head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate, wood and bourbon alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy toasted dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a solid beer.

Poured from a bottle bought 8 months prior. Smells very sweet and almost choc lately. Has a distinct smell that I cant place. Pours a dark black. No light penetrates. Brown head that disappears quickly. Taste is very sweet, chocolatey, and hints of bourbon. You know this is a boozy beer. Good amount of carbonate. Although it does hit the mouth like a sour ale. Aftertaste is present. Not overpowering, but not what I wanted. Overall I was not disappointed, but I wasnt "wowed" either. I will cellar this next one for a while. Let the yeast get at the sugars.MB. The Beer Bear On

Thick, motor oil like pour. Boozy, bourbony and sweet aroma. Pure black appearance with little lace. Bursting with rich chocolate and molasses flavor that is only helped by the nice bourbon taste. A little roasted like flavor as well. Simply a very well done beer.

750 ml bottle shared with Tmoney99 and the group. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, chocolate, bigger bourbon, vanilla, wood, dark fruits, good, maybe too much barrel for the base beer.

750 ml bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass. Deep brown-black with a deep mocha head. Lots of rich chocolate, a bit boozy a and some oak/wood character, molasses, rum, more boozy in flavor, darker chocolate notes, molasses again, sweet with fairly full bitterness and a long, boozy, richly chocolate finish with some barrel character. Big stuff.

Pitch black color with brown color. Strong bourbon aroma, a bit boozy, and later some dark malts. Smooth mouthfeel; dark malts, with liquorice, a bit salty, but not much depth, and strong boozy feeling.
Ok beer, no grace or elegance.
