We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures. Formerly 12%.

On tap. Jet black. Tan head. Aroma really carries the bourbon. Similar to the bolshevik bastard, dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruit. Smooth and rich. Complex and nicely balanced. Slight sweetness with a bourbon bitter finish. Really enjoyed.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2017 Had the 2016 and the 2017 versions. 2016: complex, with barrel all the way. Fudgy, boozy, filled with bourbon, liquor chocolate and alcohol heat. 2017: mellowed down, but the coffee shines. Esspresso, smooth chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and subtle oak notes. Both of them were absolute great beers and have the same rating.

Bottle shared at the November DC RateBeer tasting. 2016 vintage. Dark brownish black with just barely beige to tan head. Aromas of whiskey, honey, booze, dark chocolate. Tastes of booze, dark chocolate, whiskey. Medium-full body with a dry finish.

My Bottom Line:
This silky Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout proposes rich chocolate, vanilla-bearing wood, molasses and whisky in a warming mouthfeel.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the darkness.
-Barrel notes are generous from nose to finish.
-This was clearly aged in a freshly emptied whisky barrel.
-Saline allusions are noticed.

2-year-old bottle (2015 vintage).

Thanks to caesar! 750 ml. bottle sampled @ ZZT 2017. Black, brief mocha head. Nose is mocha, chocolate, cacao, low umami, thick boozy bourbon. Taste is tasty low plastic, quite boozy very heavy bourbon with lovely sweet chocolate, mocha, cacao, almost dark fruit. Basic, boozy, solid bodied. Not very elegant but very tasty boozy bourbon RIS.
