We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures. Formerly 12%.

Bottle at RBESG 2017 Grand Tasting. Dark brown color scant head. Aroma of smokey licorice and burnt espresso. Taste is burnt coffee. Decent.

Keg at Brothers Beer Bistro, Ottawa. Black, small beige head. Rich bourbony vanilla and licorice aroma. Mid sweet with full body and well rounded mouthfeel. Caramel and coffee. Licorice and vanilla. Rich and harmonious.

Bottle shared in London during CR’s bday - thanks to WingmanWillis! Pours thick black-brown with a creamy khaki head. Big dark fruit aroma with notes of sugary chocolate. Big sweet flavor with creamy chocolate, moderate roast, burnt toffee, further dark, dried fruits. Full bodied with average carbonation. Warming finish with nice notes of vanilla, chocolae, dark fruits, scorched earth. Solid overall. Pretty well balanced, decent depth.

Pitch black color with brown color. Strong bourbon aroma, a bit boozy, and later some dark malts. Smooth mouthfeel; dark malts, with liquorice, a bit salty, but not much depth, and strong boozy feeling.
Ok beer, no grace or elegance.

Bottle split at my 40th Sheenans at CBC Islo, big thanks to the Wingman (and no doubt FLBH!) for this bad assed named beer, 11/10/14. Black with a decent tan covering. Nose is strong on bourbonics, liqourice, dark malts, woody rinse, light roast. Taste comprises mellow dark fruits, spice, dark malt, bourbon pretty prominent, tar. Medium + body, fine carbonation, lightly drying close with a bourbon wash. Ok BBA impy, a little 1D but pretty drinkable none the less, ABV is fairly well integrated.

750mL bottle, sent from ratyger (thanks a lot, Sam), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out bourbon barrels, vanilla, and cocoa. Flavour is very much the same, bringing out bourbon barrels, vanilla, roasted and cocoa powder. Wonderful balance with all the aforementioned qualities. Excellent stuff.

Oakes (18873) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 27, 2015
Bottle from an LCBO in Hamilton. Very dark. Aroma is rich, with lots of molasses, bourbon/vanilla, a dash if burnt sugar, soft finish that has just a touch of alcohol. It’s a very likeable beer, I’ll say that.

750ml bottle (RBESG2017 Grand Tasting) (4:4:4:3:8=2.3)
Fucking hot aroma. Taste is mostly booze burn. Second to that there’s mostly sugar. A terrible boozy mess. This doesn’t come from barrel aging - they must have chucked a few bottles of bourbon in this.

Benzai (16690) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - OCT 21, 2017
Bottle shared @ ZZT 2017. Dark brown to black color, average to medium sized light brown head. Smell and taste malts, light roast, liquor, bourbon, lightly vanilla, some alcohol, bitter. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Heavy but very nice.

Ferris (16524) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 22, 2014
Bottle - Bourbon, vanilla and caramel notes. Jet black with a nice brown head. Bourbon, dark roast, vanilla, coconut and caramel. Well balanced, lots of bourbon flavours but little booze or heat. Nicely done.
