COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures. Formerly 12%.

750 ml bottle from lcbo - dated 2016 and labeled 14.5% abv. Quiet pour with subdued carbonation and an elaborate aroma consisting of bourbon, roasted barley, dark dried fruit, and dark chocolate. The beer is dark and opaque with an austere sepia head and sparse lace typical for such a high abv. The taste starts with a burnt sugar sweetness with notes of bourbon and roasted barley blending into the middle. The finish is long having notes of dark dried fruit ( dates, raisins, figs) and dark chocolate, and a warm, welcome, and lingering alcohol glow. To hell with my liver; must get more to cellar. Its a perfect winter sipper!

Bottle at Black night 10/2015. Many thanks to MisoW for sharing. This is the first beer to break my 4.8 points virginity. Paradoxically it is the first one above 4.6 that does not feature any prominent swag element. This is a beer for experienced and demanding drinker, not someone looking for exotic hype. This is how imperial stouts should be barrel aged. Pitch colour. No fancy aroma - only bold adult roasted malts. Stuff for big boys. Not overly complex, but intense and showcasing its strength, the same way that your favourite scotch single malt whisky does. Taste on the other hand is full of greatness. Bourbon notes are prominent, as is alcohol. Never gets to the point of booziness, rather a pleasant warmth letting you know that you are drinking no pilsener. Also woody and lots of roasted flavours, coffee, dark chocolate. Balanced intense sweetness and intense roasted bitterness. Long warming bourbon finish urging you to take in more into your system. Oh boy, is this a great beer... Mr. Data, Mr. Data. Find the nearest replicator.

0.75 bottle. Pitch black color with a small, brown head of very good retention; nonetheless, props for the wax-sealed bottle. Refined aroma of wood, plums, roasted malts, port wine, some molasses, bourbon, earth, tobacco, and miscellaneous dark fruits. Taste is rich; first comes in a robust maltiness, then dark fruits, again bourbon and port wine, wood has a primary significance here with all the barrel flavors strongly marking their presence. A full body, a thick texture, and a soft carbonation. Finish is long, fruity, molasses increases its prominence. Overall a marvelous beer, a splendid display of the Canadian brewing art. The local, mostly mediocre, scene needs such exemplary pieces to develop in a right direction.

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2017 The 2016 edition was bumped up a notch 14.5%. wow delicious, probably best beer I had in year 2016. It was available at the brewery and many LCBOs in Ontario for $16 for a 750ml bottle, expensive but worth the price to enjoy this powerful imperial bourbon stout. All sorts of delicious tastes and even better if you eat dark chocolate with it.

Black Opaque beer with fizzy brown head that dissipates rather quickly. Bold Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, hops, and bourbon. Taste is complex with espresso, vanilla bean, biscotti, and reduced brown sugar. Alcohol is hidden nicely beneath the rich layers of flavour. Robust and full-bodied with a slick mouthfeel. Absolutely first class stout.

Looks like a copper topped dark stout, smells like roasted brown sugar, and tastes like your thoroughbred just won the derby.

750 ml bottle from the LCBO. Appearance: Pours a dense black with half a finger of head. Aroma: Firewood, bourbon, spice, molasses, vanilla, flint\gun powder. Flavours: Bourbon, molasses, oak, tobacco, hint of vanilla. Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium viscosity with moderate carbonation. Overall: A very good and unusual stout. The bourbon and molasses aroma are strong along with this flint aroma that Ive gotten on South African Pinotage but never before in a beer. Just the aromas make this one worth getting. Nice and complex with lots of layers of aroma and flavour. Well balanced overall and the alcohol isnt overly noticeable.
