Figen, mørke frugter, ristede noter men ikke kaffe. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The first beer from Nieuwhuys and very different from the witbier style we all instantly associate with the name Hoegaarden. Pale beige, firm, sticky, mousse-like head, colour a very dark brown with wine-red glow, misty. Very fruity and malty nose of banana, cacao powder, coffee liqueur, cinnamon, sweet sherry, pears, mint, candi sugar; rounded mouthfeel, dark fruits and candi sweetness, mild carbonation, a hint of orange peel, all on a firm basis of chocolate-, caramel- and nut-like maltiness, also some yeasty spiciness and a leafy bitterish hoppiness in the tail, where the somewhat cloying sweetness of the candi sugar also lingers on and some warming, wodka-like alcohol emerges, very slightly burning and in that respect not that well hidden. A bit stronger now than it was in the beginning and I have the impression they also toned down the roasted malt accent, which is no longer noticeable.

Stubby 330 ml bottle, poured into a tulip glass. ABV 10% Very dark brown colour on the body, with a small but thick beige head sitting on top, good retention, medium lacing on the glass. Aroma of liquorice, light chocolate, very nice. Taste also of liquorice, roasted malts, some dark fruits, mainly plums, well hidden alcohol -it’s there but not 10% there. Moderate sweet. Medium thick body, good carbonation with a bite, sticky palate. Overall very good.

Tasty Belgian dark beer. Yeasty and malty body, with some nice fruits and herbs. Good example of a Belgian microbrewer.

Pours a dark clear brown beer with a small tanned head on top. Never seen a tripel this dark before. Looks great in the glass Aroma is malty, caramel, licorice, touch of yeast and booze. Flavor is very fruity with ripe plums, apples and cherries. Sweet and slight boozy. Creamy, full mouthfeel. Nice to have a tripel which is not overly yeasty like many other examples. Nice one!

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems. No BBF. A dark triple? Nice, something different from a lot of those dull & bland beers. Pours very dark brown, hint black, touch ruby, nearly gone tanned head. Smell is sticky liquorish, touch molasses, roasted malts, sweet, touch dark fruits like prunes jam, sticky, hint roast. Tastes of liquorish, roasted malts, light syrup, touch syrupy de Liège, caramelized apples, dark fruits jam, raisins, prunes, coffee, bitter roast,… Body of a light stout. Very nice stuff, one of the better triples I have had & way better than that other beer from Hoegaarden is these days.
