Berliner Weisse style sour ale aged on Cape Cod cranberries and Florida oranges
A lively, playful sour, Cape Codder Weisse sips like a tart beer cocktail. With tangy flavors of berry, citrus, grassy wheat, and ripe cranberry, this is a great beer to brighten any dark winter evening. Over 150 pounds of fresh cranberries were boiled and poured into each batch, giving the beer its distinctive coral-like color. A few days before bottling, we added fresh orange zest to the fermenter. Drink this bottle fresh, or age it for complexity.

Bottle- pours cloudy red with a white head. It’s on the mild side of tart with the cranberry more subdued, but still nice!

Bottle from Yankee Spirits Sturbridge. Pours red with a white head. Leaves trace lacing. Has some nice tartness on the nose. Solid tartness on the tongue with a hint of orange. Finished clean. Pretty solid example of style.

Pours ruby into a tulip. White head quickly dissipates to nothing. Lactic cranberry aromas. Sharp with sweet citrus and cranberry upfront turning to band aids before the lasting marshmallow and lactic finish.

Tons of butterscotch, butterscotch and smarties. Oh man. Let’s try again. Bretty. Lactic. Gorgeous color and clarity. Slightly sharp. This is getting better.

Bottle (750 ml) at tasting. Shared by mathieuc, thanks! Clear pale salmon-golden with a spase bubbly white head leaving little to no lacing. Aroma is a pretty nice mix of cranberries and lemon along herbal notes, floral presence and a touch of oak. Taste is moderately acidic (and surprisingly soft for a Night Shift Weisse) with cranberries and lemon upfront. Hebal presence is even more noticeable than in the aroma whil the oak is a little less. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Dry finish. A pretty solid Berliner Weisse with a good integration of the cranberries. Quenching and there’s some complexity as well.

Pours a clear onion skin/rosé with sparse bubbles on top that leaves no lacing. Nose is of cranberry, wine and oak. Taste is moderately acidic (but still quite a bit more than you average berliner weisse) and clean with some nice cranberry flavors. Lactic. Body is light to medium, carbonation moderate and mouthfeel is tannic/vinous. Overall a pretty nice (and soft by Night Shift’s standard) berliner weisse. I’d surely drink that again!
