Whatever. Kinda spicy, somewhat chocolatey, but underwhelming considering how much I love Taza chocolate.
Bottle via Jess P. Pours an opaque brown/black, decent amount of tan head. Aroma, cacao, esters, ginger, very bright and fresh. Body slightly thick, finish has an almost sticky sweetness, lots of cacao, chocolate, chicory. I wouldn’t seek this out in trade again, but a very nice beer. Taza always pours a deep, dark chocolate brown with good clarity and brilliant magenta highlights. Burnt tan head is fluffy and well-retained.
Like all of their regular-rotation beers, the beer has changed/changes from batch to batch, as I can remember finding some batches sweeter than I’d prefer while the recent batches are anything but sweet. I much prefer the recent incarnations, though I can appreciate the criticism of it being too dry, astingent and not overly stout-like. Even for a Belgian stout, it’s extremely attenuated with its biggest problem being the scratchy malts left behind and really lack of any comforting creaminess/softness. On the plus side, the spicing is not overdone and while it may still have a strong ginger presence, I think it works with what the beer’s trying to accomplish. Dry chocolate notes add bitterness as well. No alcohol and certainly well-done and interesting/unique, if perhaps relegated to an occasional sipper.

Black opaque body with a light brown latte head that quickly disappears. Aromas are roasted nuts and pleasant spice. Flavors are belgian yeasty byproducts, spice, herbs, and dry roastiness. Somehow I am getting some weird but interesting cola flavors from this. There’s a bitterness too that I assume is from the nibs. 750ml bottle pours dark brown with 2 finger foamy mocha head. Nose is fruity ginger, subtle bitter chocolate, vanilla, Andes mints. Flavor starts with smooth chocolate, followed by light charcoal and then transitions into ginger and chicory that gives it a brightness that lightens up the malt flavor. Also has a light earthy note as well. The body is really much more thin then people may want in a stout. I think thicken up the body would turn this from good, to exceptional. The brewer’s creativity does show a great deal in this stout and overall is tasty.
An opaque brown body with a tan head that faded away quickly. Carbonation was present and the beer overall seemed thin. Some cola notes upfront on the aroma. Some notes of ginger and very mild cocoa. Flavor was mild. Some nice roasted qualities and i could get a sense of the ginger. No chocolate and the carbonation seemed a bit high. If you like sour ales than this one should be on your list even though it is a stout. I do not care for the sours so I will pass on this one.
