Bottle to s pint... Mahogany with off white head. Sweet roasted malt with some subtle spiciness... Very good beer. Aquilo (651) - Berkeley, California, USA - APR 14, 2014
Even thought they call this an "English style ale," this is actually a very American ale. Lots of hops, and too sweet. If it were English, I would expect a smoother hop character, and drier flavor. Dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma of fruit and cedar. Overall, this is a bit disappointing, but still drinkable. gringo332 (640) - Richardson, Texas, USA - JAN 9, 2010
Clear reddish brown color/ fleeting head. Nice ripe dark pit fruit, spicy sweet aromas. medium body. Sharp, spicy caramel flavors with ripe pit fruits, mildly boozy finish. decent. Aml42000 (622) - Washington, USA - FEB 13, 2012
Reddish amber color. Shy nose with some spicy notes. The palate shows a good mix of caramel and nuttiness. Mostly malt flavors, but good balance from the hops. arondee (601) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - NOV 16, 2011
On tap at Nimbus in south Tucson. It’s a very dark brown color with medium carbonation. The smell is caramel malts, roasted malts, and mild hops. The tastes is a little sweet, some caramel flavor, brown sugar, and a little bitterness from the hops. It’s like a light version of a barley wine. Overall pretty good.

Bottle. Pours a fairly dark brown with a short lived tan head. Scents of dried fruit, malt, and weak coffee. Roasted flavors prevalent throughout, coffee, prunes, and sweetness with a slight bitterness in the finish. Not a big fan of coffee scented or darker roasted brews. Thanks to Flaco Alto for the bottle. Alldaydrinker (559) - Norwood, Massachusetts, USA - JUN 25, 2008
Pours a ruby hued amber color with a small tan sudsy head. Nose of grapefruit, dark fruits, hazlenuts, molasses, overall very mild. Initial taste is actually vinous with hazlenuts, touch of cocoa, dried fruits. Finishing with a mild bitterness hop balance. Alcohol is decently masked. Light bodied and smooth. Palate duration is average. Good head retention and spot lacing of the glass. This one didn’t really move me. johnadam2002 (529) - Hainesport, New Jersey, USA - AUG 6, 2007
Poured brown with creamy off white head. Aroma of caramel, hops, and some fruit. Big flavor of sweet malt with chocolate, fruit, and sugar hints. Very sweet at times. GKillian (525) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 28, 2010
Near black with thick tan creamy head and foamy lacing. Malty aroma has a faint tinge of rubbing alcohol lurking the background. Bitter / sweet taste of dark-roasted coffee and toffee. Creamy mouthfeel. Crispy34 (496) - Texas, USA - OCT 27, 2013
Draft. Aroma is a sweet yeast with some Carmel malt. Appearance is a dark brown with some lacing. Taste is almost of a dark esb. Some sweetness is in there as well. Palate is pretty mild. Overall, a good beer. Would buy again.
