Taster at Holiday Ale Festival. Deep coffee flavor with a hint of hop presence. Light palate for such a dark beer.
Tap. Pours clear deep amber-chestnut with a large tan creamy head and nice lacing. Aroma is caramel and pine dominated. Flavor is the same with some toffee, coffee and pine. Draft at the pine box. Pours black with a dense and creamy light tan head. Mild coffee nose. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Coffee grounds kick off the flavor, followed by a roasty porter, then some sweetish cocoa. Draught @ Brouwers Café: Copper in color, moderate frothy off-white head, little lacing. Roasty nose, not only in malt but also in a coffee sense. Combination watery coffee and roasted malt flavor on the tongue. Body and mouthfeel are moderate. Interesing finish, a bit of dark chocolate, bitter cold coffee, and roasted malts. Draft in Seattle. Deep amber body, souring amber malts, roast. Body is oddly sour, pickles and dry alt. Hops play a minor role. Strange beer, another off one for me from Ninkasi.

On tap at the ninkasi tasting room.Pours a dark brown color with a medium white head that leaves ok lacing. Smells of roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate tastes of all the same things with a good hop presence. Mouthfeel is thin and creamy with light carbonation. This is one if the best beers ninkasi has put out that I’ve tried. Too bad its a limited beer. The Guatemalan coffee and Theo chocolates from Seattle are a great combo. Tap @ Holiday Ale Fest 2012... Poured dark brown with an off-white head. Nose had a lot of coffee with malt also. Tasted a bit bitter. Noticeable tobacco with coffee and mesh of hop bitterness. Borderline astringent but the malt sweetness did it’s thing to retain a balance.
