Poured into a wide flute glass. Deep red color with a great inch of thick white head. Smells of rich malt, lots of it and only that. Initially watery, then malty with a hop kick at the end. Smooth and a little creamy. Low carbonation and medium bodied. A good mix. Great drinking beer. Nice malty smell and taste plus it is actually red.

Bottle, Harris Teeter (Barracks Road). Pours slightly hazy reddish-brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, citrus, pine, nuts. Flavor is chocolate, pine, citrus peel, nuts, sweet caramel, dark fruits. A bit too sweet for me, perhaps, but still kinda tasty.

Beaver (1798) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 6, 2017
12 oz bottle. Pours ruby amber with a medium creamy light tan head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is cola malt with some nutty cardboard leather.

The flavor is sweet nutty cola and caramel malt with a bit of a bitter alcohol finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, it’s not well balanced with overly sweet cola malt and an overly bitter finish that just doesn’t all go together.

Pours a clear reddish coppery color with off-white head. Caramel malt, toast, dark fruit, and some light hay and grass on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with more malt and toast.

Mahogany brown pour, couple fingers of fluffy off-white head. Rich sweet malt aroma, caramel, slight toast. Dark fruit cherry and plum. Taste is again heavy on the sweet, slight bitter finish. Lots of rich malt, little bit of nuttiness, citrus hop in the finish, grapefruit, little bit of pine. Tale of two beers, bit disjointed but both the big malt and hops come through. Big full body with lower carbonation, syrupy.

I expected a better beer from Ninkasi, didn’t really care for this one was a bit to hoppy for me.

Deep clear copper with a strong one-finger beige head and nice lacing. Aromas of rich caramel, earth, toast, and a touch of dark fruit. Caramel sweetness rules the palate, accompanied by gentle earth hoppiness, brown sugar and light toast. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, smooth mouthfeel and a lingering caramel in the finish.

650 ml bottle from Canada Craft Club. Pours a clear copper colour with good-sized light tan head. Aroma is rich caramel, toast, light fruit and some earthy hoppiness. Flavour is big caramel with lots of toasted grains, earthy hops and a bit of fruitiness. Average plus body. Nice.

Capa (3295) - Kitsap, Washington, USA - MAR 16, 2017
A pretty deep red. Toasted malt with some light caramel, some faint citrus, and a rounded malt toned hop bitterness. I wish it was a bit rougher.
