2011 Reserve bottle 2847/6200. Amber red to caramel in color with nice airy foam. 11.7abv but quite drinkable. Can feel the alcohol after first glas. Taste is sweet but with a bitterness from hops. My first barley wine. jake65 (3986) - Meridian, Idaho, USA - JAN 6, 2014
2011 Bottle, #4272/6200. Dark amber pour with a creamy finger of beige head. Intense nose of faded citrus, floral, caramel, and hints of the 11.7% ABV. Age has smoothed out any bite this may have had; it sure is smooth. Caramel and toffee flavor, along with the faded citrus and florals. Finish is soft and leaves a lingering bit of toffee behind. Reminds me of Old Boardhead. Probably not much value in aging this any longer… good stuff, but I’d like another to try fresh. A good experience and seemingly a bit dangerous at this point; I feel like I could throw this back like a session ale on a hot day! arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - FEB 18, 2014
Pour out of 22 oz bottle, slightly off white head, aroma brought notes of nice caramel, toffee, dark sugars into a bit of vanilla, oaky like notes, slight fruit in there, touch of spice, yeasty notes, hints of grass as well from residual hops. Taste is a mix of caramel, toffee, vanilla, hints of dark fruit, red fruit, slight grass, finishing sweet. Tasty with the age on it for sure. commonshawn (1311) - Minnesota, USA - AUG 29, 2015
Bomber from Portland with commonmac on his bday kinda. Light amber mahogany with small white head. Very strong alcohol nose you can smell from feet away. Smell a bit soapy. Some candy sweetness. Sweet and approachably complex. Solid alcohol and tartness burn. Drying at the finish with long lasting taste. Smooth but This beer packs a punch . Finish him! Save for Astoria Brewing’s Bitter Bitch Triple IPA, Ninkasi Critical Hit, from what we gathered, was one of the hoppiest brews at the Lucky Lab Barleywine and Big Beer Fest, and likely the hoppiest barleywine. Lots of toffee and piny tropical fruit notes came from this deep tawny beer. This beer could have almost passed for an triple IPA, but there was some noticeable caramel maltiness present. Very bitter on the tongue, but overall, this is the kind of barleywine many Pacific Northwestern beer lovers like, and Ninkasi ain’t no dummy.

Tap at Lucky Lab Fest. Medium brown pour, mild tan head with sticky lacing. Big aroma of citrus and pine hops, toffee, caramel, light earthen hops. Taste was also very hop forward with mostly the pine and earthen flavors taking top billing along with a lot of caramel which I guess qualifies it as a barleywine instead of an IIPA. Pretty solid brew, though I feel it’s miscategorized. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - JAN 8, 2012
22, capped and waxed. Pours a murky dark amber with a dense and creamy tan head that falls quickly away to a loose rim, leaving dense sheets of sticky lace coming down the sides of the glass. Big sharp grapefruit nose, very pithy, almost to a shampoo level. Sticky thick body; not the stickiest but definitely qualifies. Caramel and grapefruit mid palate, at least while still cool. Seems to be picking up some nuts and a bit of toffee as it warms. Bracingly bitter grapefruit finish that gets firmly into shampoo territory. marcus (10576) - Sacramento, California, USA - FEB 25, 2012
On tap at Toronado SF. Pours reddish copper with a peretty beige head nad a fruity aroma. There is a tangy caramel malt and chocolate flavor with a bitter finish. Well-aged. Alphadelic (2249) - Portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 21, 2013
A deep red beer. Rich and heavy malt character on the nose. Plenty of fruit in there too. Heavy and noticeably boozy without being too sticky or undrinkable. Pretty deep. A little muddled, hard to pick apart the flavours. A mid-level but long-lasting bitterness. robforbes (2263) - Bremerton, Washington, USA - FEB 24, 2013
