UPDATED: OCT 11, 2013 Created for the 2013 MILB season of the Eugene Emeralds, this beer was revealed only 2 days ago on opening night. The name is unofficial, as a competition is ongoing to decide what the official name will be, based on the suggestion of fans. I suggest ERA (for Emeralds Red Ale).
The beer itself is a hoppy Amber, which could also be advertised as an American Red Ale. Nice and strong, not really as crisp and refreshing as you would hope for a ballpark beer, but it does beckon you to drink more.
Follow up: My suggestion in the "Name The Beer" competition won. Introducing Ninkasi E.R.A. (Emerald’s Red Ale).
UPDATED: AUG 31, 2014 On tap at Ninkasi in Eugene, OR. Head had nice lacing. Served way too cold, therefore no initial nose. After warming up, smelled like malty dishwater. Hop bitterness was a welcome surprise, but the grains and hops added a distracting pungency. Not a favorite. julesjis (256) - Oregon, USA - AUG 24, 2014
Had at the Ninkasi tasting room. Was served super cold...nothing special here. Drinkable...but glad I only got the 10oz glass. Salmoniform (1272) - Sweet Home, Oregon, USA - AUG 5, 2014
Poured from tap to glass at the brewery. Copper red hue with thick creamy off white head that lingered. Aroma is malty, spicy, orange, pine, grain. Mouthfeel is great with a medium body and zesty carbonation. Taste is dry malt sweetness followed by a well balanced hop bitterness and a very clean finish. Overall this is a really nice brew that is a nice blend if a red ale & east coast style IPA. Quite enjoyable.
